Russian pilot Pyotr Nesterov, who performed the world's first aerial loop in 1913, becomes the first ever pilot to bring down an enemy aircraft in air-to-air combat when, on 7th September 1914, he deliberately rams an Austrian Albatros B.II over the Ukraine. Both aircraft crashed and Nesterov died the following day of his injuries.
