Description
of "Jane and the Dragon" fame. For years and years, there was a magical library , capable of transporting readers across time and space .
Two children, calling themselves Librarians , used this library and the magical books inside to journey to some of the most dangerous parts of history. With minimal (if any) supervision, they witnessed the destruction of Pompeii and the earthquake in San Francisco. They were there at the sinking of the Titanic, helped to recuse children during World War II and met Clara Barton amidst the chaos of the Civil War. They went to the age of dinosaurs, the days of the "Wild West" and the time of the pirates of the Caribbean .
It's amazing that they survived as long as they did.
And, at first, they were simply trapped in the past.
An impulsive decision to investigate the existence of dragons led to what may be Jack and Annie's final adventure.
They arrived in the small kingdom called Kippernium on the eve of its destruction. Destruction rained from the heavens as what appeared to be a squadron of dragons laid siege to the castle.
Jack and Annie (and their new friend Jane, a newly appointed knight) tried to escape the chaos, but something happened and they were separated. Only Jane was in the library as it disappeared, burning as it went. It relocated in a different time and place before being engulfed in a magical explosion, leaving behind a cracks and an unusual crater .
A confused Jane was taken in by Miss Frizzle, who used her connections to get the library rebuilt (instead of a simple tree house, it was something MUCH more substantial) and for Jane to take over the role of "Librarian". They're working to rebuild the library (some books are newer and may not possess the magic that the original ones had). Donations are pouring in, but some of the books have... dark secrets inside them and are instead locked away .
Jane hoped to one day find out what happened to her home and to rescue Jack and Annie. But, they didn't "stay out of history's way ". Instead, they made an impact, helping the survivors relocate and rebuild, becoming a fixed point in time in the process.
Jane maintains the library and teaches a class on Celtic history at the local community college. Brown helped her with the credentials and paperwork needed to exist in modern times while Kimball helped her adjust to society. They became fast friends (but Jane is still looking for her best friend, a dragon who survived the melee and could still be alive today).
And, of course, she helps Miss Frizzle and her allies deal with the mysteries of the island .
