It had been a few months, but finally Kimber lost her fuzzy Stryxling coat and traded it in for smooth grown up feathers. Hannah noticed she was ready for branching when she caught Kimber a few times attempting to climb the barn and hopping off the decorative wall flapping furiously. So one night she took the Stryx into the country far down the road. Kimber walked excitedly next to her owner, taking in all the new sights and sounds for she has never been off the homestead since arriving. Hannah turned and lead the pony sized Stryx off road and down a dusty path. The terrain got more and more rocky and eventually they arrived in a large gulch. Hannah removed the collar from around her friends neck and gave her a nudge. "Go on, go practice. Lots of places to glide around here." Kimber took a few tentative steps to look around, before scrabbling up a large boulder. Hannah sat down nearby to watch the show. The Tyto spotted another rock further down and lept, but misjudged the distance and landed with a thud a few feet too short. Kimber, undeterred, scrambled up a small cliff and perched on an even higher boulder. She spotted another potential landing spot and unfurled her wings, flexing her new flight feathers. Again she lept, spreading her wings wide. "That's it! You're doing good!" Kimber had never felt what being airborne was like before and was a little uneasy at balancing at first, but her wings carried her right to the boulder where she swung her talons up for the perfect landing. Well the landing was a little sloppy but she didn't fall off the rock at least. "Good girl! You'll be carrying me around before you know it!"
