Description
My entry to Skywards Future Artists contest. Under the theme of Global Citizens.A fragile OLED screen butterfly carrying interactive markings on its wings takes flight in my vision of a futuristic forest where bio-mimicking technology is taken to an unprecedented network level.
The markings are all very game-inspired. For eg. The hearts suggest the life of the butterfly (yes, these things do die but just a little later than a normal butterfly). Then... let's see... it can be recording the temperature of its environment. {Pretty important considering we're already in the Global Warming period} [and because the way the temperatures dropped in The Day After Tomorrow freaked me out. The butterfly could be used as a spying weapon, or just to collect data from higher altitudes and pooling it all into a giant forest of a network. I'm thinking Avatar.
What other possibilities can you think of? Share!
File size : 1165*1654 px @ 300 dpi (pretty weird size? I agree.)
This is my entry: [link] It might take a LITTLE time to load. [takes AGES for me] [maybe it's all that traffic idk]
Not a heavy site AT ALL.
Anyhow, hope you guys like it.

Very cool! Love that the "veins" of a board lay on transparent wings.
Personal wifi or cell phone satellite type gadgets?
Of course, the simplest and most easily thought of ideas are usually the best and you already thought of those.

Awww! Thank you so much my dear! Your comments and praises always brighten up my day
So glad you liked the work. and the title lol.
They're not gadgets. I feel they're more natural (yet unnatural). Born of the cyber jungle we're building. They are a part of Nature. The humans didn't create these. They just.. sort of... came to be. Evolution perhaps. I myself am not too clear on it. It was just a thought I put to pixels. {should actually think more on this and figure these guys out}
I think they (our present-day butterflies) should officially be called flutterbys 'cos, well that's what they do don't they?

I see. Evolved flutterbys then. And yes, that's what I called them as a child so I'm totally down with the name change. I always used to argue with my mom about how silly it was to have "butter" in the name...."Why not nectarfly, pollenfly?", or again, "flutterbys?"...rofl!
