Description
He comes to the Royal Palace at night in the middle of a rare thunderstorm. Out in the hall he stands, dripping onto expensive hand-woven carpets that are older that he is, his trusted staff clenched tightly in his dirty hand.

He is tall and thin, and very unlike the other men that work and live in the Royal Palace. Those men are bulky and loud, like her own father. The stranger dressed from head to toe in unfamiliar dark garments ( "He comes from the far East," her father supplies) doesn't need to use his voice to command utter attention. So he stands silently, face still partially hidden behind a dirty scarf.

From her hiding place behind her father's throne, the young princess sees the scientist that her father has lured into his service for the first time. She thinks he might be a sorcerer.

The man's pale yellow eyes land on her suddenly, even though she is convinced he cannot see her in her hiding place. He reaches up to lower his keffiya, fully exposing a thin angular face. Carefully she peeks around her father's throne, ignoring what her father is saying, completely focused on the stranger before her.

Then, after some hesitation, the stranger smiles at her, exposing two neat rows of pearly white teeth. Tugging pensively at the small beard that springs from his chin he asks: "Why hello there, and who might you be?"

And just like that, the princess just knows he is a sorcerer. Blushing profusely, she smiles back at him, heart fluttering in her throat.
