Story

Lupa's show career had a rocky start, to say the least. They placed dead last at their first ever futurity event. But had Eric kept his head up. He praised her and gave her pats as though she had won the entire competition. Lupa had given it the old college try, and he was proud of her for that.

Now it was time to see if they could make up for their lackluster debut. The morning rays of the Barossa Valley made Lupa's tack gleam in the warm sunlight. The pair was scheduled to be one of the first to attempt the course, and Eric was ready. He tapped the mare's sides with his heel, encouraging her toward the gate. It was amazing how adaptable the young horse was in this weather. While Eric was sweating balls in his traditional black getup, the heat rolled off of Lupa's back like water. She was truly an Australian warmblood through and through.
It was almost time. The previous competitor exited the arena, and Lupa lurched forward with vigor. The pair was aiming for a relaxed round that was akin to the hunter training they did at home. With a little luck, Lupa would display the confident hops of a trained hunt horse.
