Check out the main Disney site? At the very bottom, there's a line of text that says "about disney" - that will bring you to another page; at the bottom of that page, it says "contact us." I'm not sure how well it might work, but I suppose you could always try. :3

No. I disagree with forcing little children to have to deal with issues that we in the adult world can't even deal with maturely. Children shouldn't have to be dealing directly with things like politics, religion, terminal illnesses, gay rights, racism, etc.
These things may be naturally introduced, maybe, like for instance allowing the child to play with other children of different ethnicities in order to lessen racial prejudices, but don't make a child watch a documentary on the Civil rights movement until they get into school.

Seriously, this stuff can mess kids up, and drive them to extreme opinions.

it's not about a princess with cancer, just a bald one who want to show that bald can be beautiful too.
it gives the kids hope.

Nope. Here's my reason. How would they explain it? I'm not personally against it, or anything. If they can figure out a way of making a bald princess without creating a stupid sob-story, be my guest. It's the same for the plus-size princess ideas.

It's not a personal thing, it's just a script/plot/story thing.

SushiBagel In reply to Princesaylala [2012-06-28 15:17:15 +0000 UTC]

Explain a plus-size princess?

Um .... she's fat? Not much to explain. You could just make her and NOT explain why she's fat. Why does that matter? SHe doesn't have to be obese, maybe like a normal human. If you look at Disney princesses their waists are slimmer than the width of their head. :/ Anything is fat compared to that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Princesaylala In reply to SushiBagel [2012-06-28 15:48:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, fat, I guess.Doesn't have a flat stomach and has rolls. But what I mean by 'explaining', is more or less, how would a story go like that? More often than not, there's massive dancing, and more active princesses. They more or less live under harsh settings at the beginning. She couldn't be like that.

This isn't an attack on plus-size women. Trust me, it's not. I'm a bigger girl, myself. It's simply how would they figure out how to do certain things. Again, if they can do it, then that's amazing. Bring it on. But more often than not these stories turn into 'feel sorry for me', kind of thing. That, and there is no original fairytale where a woman is bigger.

SushiBagel In reply to Princesaylala [2012-06-28 16:27:02 +0000 UTC]

"That, and there is no original fairytale where a woman is bigger."

I can assure you during the various times the original fairytales were written, being bigger was probably seen as attractive, because it meant that you had plenty of food, were probably wealthy, and didn't have to work day in and day out like normal laborers. And I don't mean giant people with huge rolls. I mean an average woman with some possible love handles and some pudge rolls when she sat down.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Princesaylala In reply to SushiBagel [2012-06-28 17:11:48 +0000 UTC]

As true as that is, when the official books came out, like in the Brother's Grimm tales the princesses were no longer heavy. That being said, it is no longer relevant to have a heavy princess, since weight doesn't stand for much other than how 'lazy' one is. That is more often than not, today's opinion of plus-size, and a heavy princess would not be well received by the general public, in that aspect.

Now as to what is meant by plus-size, I mean not average. It's difficult to make an 'average' size cartoon character. They are either thin, or they're not. There's generally no in-between. So she's either going to have rolls, or not. she's either going to have a tiny waist, or not.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SushiBagel In reply to Princesaylala [2012-06-28 17:21:55 +0000 UTC]

Not relevant, because people aren't heavy anymore? Also, have you ever heard of malnutrition? You can eat little but if it's the wrong thing you'll still gain weight. There are plenty of lazy thin people and heavy people that have low metabolisms that work out. There are olympic athletes that are 'fat' and do nothings that are bones with skin. The reason heavy people are not accepted by society in media is because people give them no respect and put them down and put thinness in the same category as beautiful, and anything else as ugly.

You can draw a person thicker than a pencil without adding rolls. And I'm sorry, I'd never heard of the idea of someone that was pudgy without looking like they were 300 pounds.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Princesaylala In reply to SushiBagel [2012-06-28 17:47:03 +0000 UTC]

What I meant by not relevant any more is Weight being connected to amount of money you have. And I know what malnutrition is, but do you honestly think a five year old does? You have to make a character simple enough for a child to understand. That's the magic of Disney! I understand your argument, but we're talking about things that children would be able to understand. The point of making a plus size Disney princess would be for acceptance of bigger woman, and I agree with the values and concepts, but it wouldn't work very well.

And I doubt an olympic athlete is 'fat'. They have muscles. There is a difference between the two. And I do know lazy people who eat 12 Big Mac an hour who don't gain weight, but a child wouldn't understand why. They don't get complex ideas like metabolism. They understand skinny, and not skinny.

And I'm sure you could, but then she wouldn't be 'plus-size'. Bigger does not equal plus size. She could be an amazon, and still not be considered plus size. She'll need a decent amount of rolls, or overall roundness.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SushiBagel In reply to Princesaylala [2012-06-28 17:50:06 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I agree that it's a hard concept to understand for children, but teaching them not to make fun of and appreciate people is a concept that knows no age limit.

Please look at the first woman on this chart and tell me that this woman does not have excess fat, and by being athletic she would be considered 'beautiful' in today's society. [link]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Princesaylala In reply to SushiBagel [2012-06-28 17:56:15 +0000 UTC]

She does have excess fat, it's clear from her chin- but because she is a weightlifter, she does have a vast amount of muscle-tone beneath it. She is also broad-shouldered, and most likely big boned. She's also more than likey an endomorph.

And under most circumstances, none of these women would be considered 'beautiful'. They're more intimidating than anything. Heavily muscled people aren't very attractive.

They bought Marvel. . . .a couple years ago I think? Eh, as long as Disney still keeps coming out with cute movies like Princess and the Frog, Tangled, and Brave I think it's all alright.
Though, Disneyland is basically a piece of crap to go to anymore, considering only people with money can go to it.

Have you seen Brave yet?

It's not too bad, as long as you go during the off-season on like a cloudly/rainy day.
But you go anywhere near Summer, Winter, Spring break and you might as well throw your money out a window because all it is is screaming people, giant masses of human bodies stuck to each other and waiting in line for 5+ hours.

KiokuLovesCheesecake In reply to Overlord-Mercia [2012-06-28 14:51:44 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I've seen Brave and I loved it! Reminds me a lot of how my mother and I act, as cliche as that sounds. It's true, though.

And wow... I hate screaming people... It's bad enough at a county fair, but it must be ten times worse at a place like that.

Petraea In reply to Overlord-Mercia [2012-06-28 02:31:14 +0000 UTC]

It would be correct to say Aang is bald. Bald is simply lacking hair. I think the proper terminology would be to say that Aang as a shaved head.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Overlord-Mercia In reply to Petraea [2012-06-28 02:35:17 +0000 UTC]

Bald is a condition where you have no hair and can't grow hair for a certain amount of time.
So technically Aang was never bold, unless you count his older self where it's possibly his hair died.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Petraea In reply to Overlord-Mercia [2012-06-28 03:04:08 +0000 UTC]

Bald is a medical condition that affects the hair, yes, I know that. However, bald is also another word for bare, plain, no (or very little) hair. Aang does not suffer from baldness, yet he is bald.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Overlord-Mercia In reply to Petraea [2012-06-28 03:12:43 +0000 UTC]

The correct term would be shaved though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Petraea In reply to Overlord-Mercia [2012-06-28 04:18:14 +0000 UTC]

But in shaving his head, he also becomes bald. He's shaving his head bald. Both shaved and bald are correct. Bald can be a style of hair (or rather, lack of a hair style) or can be an condition that makes you lose hair.

lane-nee-chan [2012-06-28 00:53:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, first I would have to say the sentence is grammatically incorrect. Have should be replaced with has.

Any-who, Disney is an artistic company whom doesn't have to do anything.

That, and I think that it is a bad idea.
As someone whom had trich as a child and bald spots all over my head, and I wouldn't want to be reminded of what was on my head by watching a disney princess whom was bald. I adored The Little Mermaid, and me and my bald spots had SO much fun buying her doll and brushing her long hair when I was little

MaewynShadowtail [2012-06-28 00:35:12 +0000 UTC]

I personally think there are more effective ways of giving bald children with cancer more self esteem. Not that a bald princess would be a BAD idea mind you. I just feel that a child's self esteem should be based on more than just a passing physical resemblance to a fictional cartoon character. There are many ways to boost a kid's confidence, but the primary focus should be on finding things about the CHILD that are worth celebrating, because "you are worthwhile and beautiful because this fictional character who has one physical trait in common with you is beautiful" doesn't seem very genuine to me? Just my opinion.

Ok, so we also need a fat princess, a princess with skin disease, a gay prince, a lesbian princess, a princess with dwarfism, and a princess with every other disorder or disease you can name
dumb idea, there are so many issues they'd be leaving out by making a cancer patient princess. Better to steer clear of that.

"has to" or "should have to"

(sorry grammar nazi kicked in)

I think it's a nice gesture and it doesn't just work for cancer children but for those afflicted with other ailments or treatments that cause premature hair loss. I think having a bald disney princess would be wonderful, and if someone doesn't like it, they don't have to watch it.

Incidentally I think she should also be a hundred times more awesome, just to avoid the "she's not a *real* disney princess" snarks that other children will be prone to.

Unless you're referring to the Disney Company. You should totally pitch your idea to them in that case
