Description Hm, this cutie looks familiar...

After having it on my todo list for months, I finally got around to working on a character design for the random artbreeder gen I chose to use as my "temporary" profile picture. It still looks a bit rough because it was reliant on my own artistic skills for quite a large portion of it xP The design also strayed from my original concept, in part because I realised I wanted the character to be extra thicc, because the more animal headshape + hairstyle would conceal a forehead gemstone, and because the model I was using sure as heck wasn't going to manage adding in a classic wizardly collar, especially when said collar is the same colour as the hair (let's just say the hair is concealing it)!

Oh right, the character info: Milo isΒ a quiet and competent small-time mage, who helps out where they can with local matters, operating within a small region of villages/towns. They're quite a wallflower, and talk little - the sort where people stop and listen when they do speak up, because it's not a common occurrence. When they do talk, it's usually to offer or ask for insight, or make a (often silly) quip. They're a skilled practitioner of magic - good enough that you can depend on them to get a job done, but not save the world from great dangers or anything.

As for the process of making them... I originally generated a bunch of experiments to both test out styles, and see how well the AI could work with the outfit I wanted (turns out, not too great). I ended up quite liking one of the test results, which I decided to use as a base:

I had to do quite a lot of painting over to get the base of the outfit I wanted. It felt like a sin to cover up thighs as juicy as those, but I did make sure to at least leave signs they were there, plus the robe was intentionally designed to part in such a way to expose as much of the lower body as possible > The robe parting isn't that great since I'm not too well practiced with 3D forms and the like, but it is hopefully serviceable... My paintover looked like this by the point I was ready to begin the genwork:

I already had a design for the wand in mind at this point, because I'm great at procrastinating and did that first. In the spirit of AI generation, I used Bing's generator to create a whole bunch of reference pages of wand designs in the styles I wanted, then kitbashed together the design from that. I wanted something cutesy, but also practical-looking to suit the idea of Milo I had, and put this together:

I really shouldn't have actually drawn in the wand to my base yet, because it'd only end up getting in the way, to the point I had to edit it out later xP This stage was all the classic AI stuff of iterating, editing, and inpainting down to something I liked. When it came to adding the wand back in, I wanted to do things right and have it correctly at an angle. Problem is, I'm still not good at 3D space (I really need to get back into Draw a Box), and so couldn't really handle it on my own. Thankfully, the design is simple enough that I could 3D model the wand (hopefully no gem enthusiasts scrutinise the cut I gave the head...), position it where I wanted it, then draw over it to guide the inpainting (though it was still a struggle with that). The end result is still a bit wonky since I didn't fully replicate the linework style of the main character artwork, the AI didn't like the perspective in some parts, and I naively trusted myself to draw on the fabric tie xP

And then for the full art version of the wand I did some inpainting on the kitbashed wand image to bring it more inline with the style, though with a bit more rendering afforded to it since it's supposed to be a special image. From what I remember it was a bit of a pain to get everything to work well, even with manual edits and guidance. Who would've thought that an AI model designed for furry pinups would struggle with bespoke wand designs? xb
