"Marcus, we are agreed on bringing Pirate into the outdoor shed, yes?” Milo asked nervously after hanging up one of the spare halters, turning to face him. "Since he hasn't been desensitized from small spaces, I thought that would be a good place to shelter him from the downpour."
"Haa?" Marcus had only been half-listening. "Yeah, sure," He shrugged with a huff, packing up Peanut's equipment before he would need to leave.
"We should get going now, clouds are coming in," He spoke with a frown, peeking outside of the barn doors to see dark clouds slowly making their way over.
"Alright," He replied with little to no enthusiasm, squinting at Milo for a moment. Persistent country bumpkin. He thought to himself before walking over to the assortment of halters and grabbing Pirate's hand-me-down halter, speaking as he walked. "Let's get going, then. We don't have all day, clearly."
"Ah.. yes." Milo turned around, following behind him quickly.
---
Making their way down to Pirate's pasture, a small drizzle began to start.
"Best we hurry," Marcus mumbled, walking over to the gate. "..hey, where's the--halter." He paused mid-sentence, noticing Milo had already gotten over the fence and rushing over to Pirate.
"Hey, Pirate.." He smiled faintly, making sure to aproach him slowly as he grabbed a treat out from his side-bag. "Here ya go," He chuckled, giving him a gentle pet on his muzzle before getting the halter around his face and securing it.
"Well, you have certainly gotten more bold compared to two weeks ago." Marcus said bluntly once he caught up to Milo.
".." Milo huffed, gently petting Pirate's cheek. "C'mon, we don't have much time," He tilted his head to gesture that they start walking.
"Yes, yes," Marcus rolled his eyes, gently patting Pirate's side as they all began to start moving down the pasture.
---
"I say we go down the side road, it's a bit of a longer path but there's still some shelter from the drizzle under the trees," Milo suggested hesitantly.
"Or we could go down through the barn.. side of the barn," Marcus replied after looking both ways. "It's not ideal, but it's quicker. I don't feel like getting soaked."
"But Pirate--he's not used to cramped spaces remember? We haven't desensitized him yet," Milo said quickly, pinning his ears back with concern. "Even with our soothing, he could freak out."
"Which is why I suggested the side of the barn, through the side gate," He sighed, gently grabbing the rope from Milo. "Pirate should be fine going down that way."
Milo continued to frown. "Fine.. I guess," He said in a doubtful tone, following quietly.
---
"Ugh.. drizzle is getting my clothes damp," Marcus muttered under his breath, arriving to the side of the barn with Milo and Pirate.
"I'm still not sure about this," Milo huffed, walking over to open the gate and push it aside.
"It'll be fine," Marcus reassured Milo once more, starting to hum a quiet tune to keep Pirate calm.
Milo's ears perked up slightly, starting to notice a change in Pirate's behavior. "Marcus, I don't think he likes this path," He tried to talk firmly. "We should just.. go through the longer way when he's more used to small spaces."
"He'll be fine, Milo," Marcus snapped at him slightly, sighing tiredly. "We just need to get him through the path and he'll be alright."
"Well *I* think we should go through the long way," He replied.
As the two argued Pirate gradually began to pick up on their mood. His ears pinned back as he tried to pull away, ready to run.
"Well maybe if you'd-" Marcus paused after he felt the pulling, accidentally letting go of the lead.
"Pirate!" Milo shouted, shooting a short lasting glare at Marcus. "We should have gone the other way," He frowned, carefully jogging after Pirate, who was already down into the empty pasture.
---
..and there he was, pawing at the wet grass, far out into the middle of the pasture.
