Petition for streaming Cyborg 009 on American websites . This is American only because they block them from other countries. Petition for releasing Cyborg 009 on DVD . I know several of you have merchandise you import or get someway from America, where ever this DVD is released, I must ask you to do that again.===END EDIT
Well, this is part of my answer to the question of the week over at Anime News Network . The question is:
"What old series/movie are you interested in that the new crop of fans is completely uninterested in? Why do you think that is? What steps would you take to reverse it."

Well, I don't think I need to tell you what series I enjoy XD
Seriously, this show had a prime place to gain a following, the Toonami block on weekdays in the 2000's was THE PLACE for animation. But, it didn't garner enough favor to appease the rating gods and it was banished to like 4:30am. What is more disheartening is the series never ran its course in broadcast, missing the last 4 episodes, and we cannot even view it through other means like a streaming site or DVDs.
It just makes me sad.
I wish, I could petition streaming sites to run the series in full, that would be a dream, though, I am unsure how to go about doing that.

wow. all that info is sad, sad stuff. maybe a trip to japan would be in order to track down the dvd and stuff. *I'd kidnaps you, blaze, hap, and na and flys away to japan* OwO; and then the manga is out of print.

I'd so do it! you know I would! but that would be so much money that it's not even funny. plane and car fair for all of us, hotel, food, cyborg 009 junk... lots of money would have to be spent.

*nods* this is why I quote it half the time. despite it's art its a great story and has some pretty deep stuffing going on in it. so i quote it and when people go "that was funny what was that from?" all I have to say is "go watch Cyborg 009!" oh yes, I am trying to build it's fandom. failing, but still trying.

Alright, spread the cyborg love, I know, it's hard to do so, but you'll get there with someone! With my friends, all they've done is just giggle and were OK with it. Got a great quote from a friend looking at the manga. "So, the baby is a cyborg too?" LOL

actually... in my opinion 001 being a cyborg is debatable. lol. but yes! the best two I got was me and my girlfriend at the time. we were looking at blaze's comics and were like "omg neat!" then we went shopping at a local used dvd store. she was like "omg Tegan!" I looked and she held up a Cyborg 009 dvd and I almost has a heart attack I kid you not. so we went home and stuck the dvd in and watched the first episode and she asked "omg, they actually look like that?" then we were watching the episodes with 0010- and 0010+ and I saw 009 being all hurt and stuff and in nothing but his underwear when 003 was taking care of him. I blurted out "if that's all he is wearing it must be really cold under there."
#1 best quote I got from another person was "omg, they actually look like that?" and #2 best quote from myself was "if that's all he is wearing it must be really cold under there."

I know exactly what you mean. And it's like nobody even knows about it anymore, so when you say "Yeah, I miss 009" they go "What now? What the fuck is that?" D: It's just depressing what happened to it...
...they should seriously try giving it another go. Sometimes thing take off if you give them another go a few years later, right? Or is that just the desperate side of me?
...I think I still have some episodes on VHS that I taped... XD

oh yes, there are a couple very kind folks who've uploaded the torrents up there. Though, sadly, the only user who had the Japanese eps up in full is suspended D: Right now you can only see eps35-51 in Spanish.

I used color E21. :3 It is a good deeper skin tone color, and it shades a E00 skin nicely.

By the way, I love how happy 009 seems when he first shows up, like he's proud that we Americans can't get the other episodes- WAIT! There were 51? I thought the series ended at 48, unless the episodes where they're wearing blue are canon? O_O

Well, I know petitions don't work that well, so I haven't started one yet, but we'll see!
Yup, there were intended to be 51 episodes for broadcast. They were on TV in Latin American, AND in Finland, the English dubbed episodes showed on TV, including 5 49-51 (subtitled in Finnish, they got to see it before America T3T)
It's... sort of canon. It's more of the ending (from what I understand) Ishinomori intended for the last of the manga. It didn't fit in with the canon of this anime so well (anime ending is in line with Volume 10 of the manga, manga continued to volume 37), so I think they changed the uniform to help break it up for folks. But, I'm speculating
