Description
Son of Poseidon and Medusa.Grown out of his mothers blood as she was beheaded by Perseus.
That is Pegasus.
The winged horse.
Carrying thunder and lightning in the service of Zeus.
Able to create fresh springs of clean water by beating his hoofs to the mountain sides.
Clearly affected by his divine genes.
Shy as he was, he was no less friendly to humans.
And, possibly since his mother was mortal, he was too.
Zeus wouldn’t let him die completely though.
He had helped him too much for that.
The thunder god had grown fond of him.
So on the last day of his life, Zeus made him into a constellation.
And as such, even today, he can still be seen on the night sky.
Pegasus is one of the 48 constellations listed by Ptolemy, and the 88 recognised ones of today.
It neighbours to Andromeda, Pisces and Cygnus among others, and stays closely to the foal Equuleus.
The two horses seem upside down in relation to the other constellations around them.
Or maybe not.
Maybe they are supposed to be like that.
Relaxing in the field.
Rolling around on their back.
It is a nice image, is it not?
