Description
At the end of a tragic relationship, Tobias converses with his best friend Miranda.Tobias: “Where is it? Huh? Tell me, Miranda, where is this 'love' our society hails as a god? Where is this 'love' that everyone is so intoxicated with? Sure, we might quaff from a pitcher of lust or imbibe a shot of powerful affection, but this 'love' is a liquor never tasted. It’s always been promised to us: it was on the tongues of our fathers and in the ears of our mothers at conception. Supposedly we’re born into it. But it’s hard to understand love from a father who leaves for another woman, and a mother who works to sustain a habit instead of a life. These strange brews might taste like love, but their aftertaste is a falseness that leaves the children’s teeth set on edge. So what then? Having no example, no concept of love, but filled with the romantic ideas of our elders, we charge forth into the world to find the mysterious spirit called 'love'. Instead, we find other desperate seekers just like ourselves, with no better ideas of love. And then we force ourselves upon each other in some sick, ritual courtship that either ends in heartbreak, starts the cycle over again, or in the god-forbidden worst-case scenario, does both. God is love, Miranda. And God is dead.”
