Description UPD2: Guys, I really am chuffed that so many people found this tutorial helpful. It came as a total surprise when DA gave me a Daily Deviation for it, and that it has accumulated 55K views. I am surprised and honoured.
However, I think that this tut is now terribly outdated. Hardly anyone uses ImageReady anymore. In this day and age, you can make an animated GIF directly in CS5, online - even in Powerpoint, whatever rocks your boat. If I had time, I could make a CS5 stamp tutorial or something - however, there are some awesome tutorials for that already, so why reinvent the wheel?
I haven't got time to reply to all the comments I get for this deviation, or respond to all the faves - so comments are disabled for now, sorry!
Last but not the least: this tutorial is far from perfect. I don't make stamps anymore. I am a published manga artist, I draw manga and illustrations and do workshops (and have been doing so since 2004, would you believe!). I really am somewhat disappointed that this tutorial got noticed and recognised more than any work that I put my heart and soul into.
So thank you for your interest - and please check out other art in my DA gallery, or on my website www.irinarichards.com.

Thanks! Peace and love all around ^^

Hello! I simply love your tutorial and i'm trying to make a stamp now! But i have a question to ask you! When i'm in the stamp slide 2, i'm about to click in select --> all , but for me appears "all layers"! Then i click it but when i go to "Edit" to select in "Copy", i can't do it cause i doesn't let me! ;_;
And i did everything exactly like you explained from the beginning in the tutorial! Could you correct me if i'm wrong? Thank you in advance! ;3

p.s: Sorry about my english! >_<

well, did your "Stamp Slide 2" file have more than one layer?
If yes, merge them down to one layer, then it should let you copy it. Hope it helps!

dimundi-official In reply to irinarichards [2007-09-09 18:52:52 +0000 UTC]

Strange... it has just one layer, "Layer 1", but i still can't copy it and it keeps saying "select --> all layers"!

irinarichards In reply to dimundi-official [2007-09-09 19:56:21 +0000 UTC]

Another thing to do is, go back to Photoshop, open "Stamp Slide 2" there and Select All and Copy it there.
Then switch back to ImageReady, click on Frame 2 in your Animation and do Edit => Paste.

It is PS7 as well.

This was Photoshop 7, but it should work in PS CS2 too.

This is a good tutorial on how to make a animated stamp. When I try to make a animated stamp on Paint Shop Pro 7, the colours always come out grainy due to the limitations in the number of colours that a GIF image can have.

irinarichards In reply to ppgrainbow [2007-07-16 14:27:45 +0000 UTC]

I had a similar problem - try to play around with the colour setting and dithering (you know, in the top right corner of Image Ready where you choose the format and properties).

I doubt it if JASC Animation Shop 3 will do that.

Caffeine-Master In reply to ??? [2007-06-25 05:18:45 +0000 UTC]

Weird...when I try to paste the second picture into the second frame, it changes both frame 1 and frame 2 to the second picture.

Example:

If my first picture in animation frame 1 was just a big "A", and then I open the second picture (which we'll assume is a big "B") and try to paste it into the new frame I made with the duplication button, both frame 1 AND frame 2 change to "B", instead of the first one staying as "A", and the second one becoming "B".

Is there any obvious, well-known reason that this should happen? Does anyone know what's wrong or how to fix it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

irinarichards In reply to Caffeine-Master [2007-06-25 14:28:34 +0000 UTC]

Make sure the program creates a new layer for each frame. I. e. when you click "duplicate current frame" you should see a new frame in the Animation palette AND a new Layer in the Layers palette. Mine does it automatically I think.

Caffeine-Master In reply to irinarichards [2007-06-25 16:56:45 +0000 UTC]

Oh, ok.

Thanks.

*Found the problem now*

Apparently, there's an option you have to check off so that the program automatically creates a new layer for each frame; I found it, and it seems to be working now.

LeaShakira In reply to Caffeine-Master [2010-08-20 07:27:26 +0000 UTC]

This was so long ago, I can't remember at this point.

Although, it doesn't matter now, really for me, so it's ok.

I can't remember--I'd have to find it again.

It's been forever since I made a stamp or anything.

I planned to in a little while, when I put them both up.

*Has made two, and would have put them both up already, if I hadn't had to get off because of a really suddenly, random storm...o.o*

:/

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

irinarichards In reply to Zakahia [2007-06-21 16:45:08 +0000 UTC]

You can't move slide 2 to slide 1 - animation goes forwards, not backwards

I can't see myself making stamps (more like icons for LJ and such) but thanks for illuminating that photoshop lets you make animations! I honestly did not know that.

irinarichards In reply to Larissa-Bright [2007-06-11 16:22:53 +0000 UTC]

photoshop doesn't I used PS to make the actual slides and ImageReady to animate. You can follow the same principle for making icons/avatars too.
