Description
"I became used to the way my body moved, the way it looked, and the way everything else looked. It was all quite exciting and new. But there was something more… A dull, dry ache was building up in the back of my throat. I could not get used to it. Nor could I make it go away. Drinking and eating made it worse. Everything tasted bland anyway so I just stopped eating. We realized what I needed for nourishment a few hours later. The scientist had come to get Ookamiotoko for his latest set of experiments when a large rat ran across the floor of our cell. Instead of cringing away from it, the way I usually did, I dived after it, ripped open its neck and proceeded in drinking its blood. The scientist was elated that he had created another monster and he took me away for experimentation."Now the scientist was much happier with me. He brought me many different types of animals for the next two days to see which I liked best; he told me his wedding gift to me would be my favorite animal so far. Our wedding day went off without a hitch, albeit, it was held in a jail cell. But still, we had been able to see our families, whom we had not seen in a year. And now… Now that my selfish desire for being called a wife was complete, I had made peace with the thought that I would die in this place.
"Two days later, after our 'honeymoon,' the scientist had another idea. My husband (Oh, how I loved that word…) and I had been transformed into two different monsters, true, but which one of us was now stronger? The scientist came and told us that if we fought for a while, he would let us go, never to bother us again. Overjoyed by the news that we had the chance to possibly live semi-normal lives, we both agreed, not even bothering to think about the consequences. He had Ookamiotoko fight in his wolf form, just to make the fight more even, he said. After his transformation, I started to think. Not about how to keep the both of us alive so as to live happily ever after, but how deliciously adorable his wolf form really was. We slowly crouched into our unique fighting stances and tensed, read for battle. The scientist, with everything he had, then hurled a kunai at my husband, creating a wound in his right shoulder, perhaps trying to make the fight more interesting for himself.
"I do not remember too much after that. I do remember the scent of his blood reaching my nose and thinking how I must ingest such a deliciously mouth-watering sample of blood. When I came to my senses, there was a half-dead wolf in front of me, slowly transforming back into a man. I hugged him close to me, his blood not so delectable anymore, and kissed his forehead. I begged him not to leave me, but he just smiled a crooked smile and closed his eyes.
"I kissed his forehead a few more times, wanting to cry but not being able to. I placed him gently on the floor, planning his funeral in my head, and turned around to face the source of the problem. The scientist took a step backwards, telling me that he had done nothing and that he should be allowed to go free. After killing my husband, I felt empty and numb - a feeling that would remain for the rest of my eternity - and none of the man's words registered in my head as I stalked towards him silently. He turned to run, but I was faster. I ripped him apart, picked up my husband, and set the building on fire. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it burn, the way my life burned away with it. I chopped off most of my long hair, leaving it chin length, and buried my husband on his favorite hilltop. I then realized that my family would come looking for me after seeing that enormous fire, so I ran away from our village, leaving everything, even my name, behind.
"I traveled the world, hoping to find someone like me. Or like my husband. Of course, I found no one; no one could have been as cruel as that man had been. And so, I started thinking about ways to make someone else like me, make myself cruel like that man. Nine hundred years later, I finally decided to create another blood sucking monster like me. Driven by pure loneliness, I began to look for someone I might like to spend the rest of eternity with. I was in what is now called Volterra, Italy when I found a kind young man by the name of Aro. He seemed like he could be the son I always wanted to have with my Ookamiotoko, so I decided I would invite him to my home. He seemed to like me, maybe a little too much, but I did not think about that until much later.
"I did not know exactly how to change Aro, but I went with my instincts and bit him. Like me, he said his body felt like it was on fire. I put my cold hands on his head, trying to calm the flame. His transformation took four days, twice as long as I had taken. He was also much better at becoming used to everything, probably because he had someone with experience to guide him through all the differences. A few weeks later, his two friends, Marcus and Caius, came looking for him. I had not let Aro out during the day for fear of having him sparkle out in public. They found us in our basement, enjoying a lunch of dog. Aro asked what was going to happen to his friends as I tied them up there. I answered hesitantly but truthfully, we would either have to kill them or make them one of us. It did not really matter to me what we did with them so I left the decision up to Aro. He wanted to keep them, so I bit them as well.
"I began to suspect that Aro might have a different kind of love for me as the months went by. I thought of him as a son, he thought of me as his eternal lover. I did not want to hurt him by leading him on, so I told him I would never return his love; if it was too hard for him to be around me and not think of me any differently then as a mother, then I would have to leave and find a new family. He took it badly. Very badly. He was so hurt that I had tricked him that he no longer wanted to be anything like me. To get his revenge on me, he went against everything I taught him and started drinking the blood of humans instead of animals. I left Italy to travel the world again, landing on a continent that had yet to be discovered. There, I found a very different kind of people. They were very accepting of me and I thoroughly enjoyed their company. (Little did I know, the blood drinkers I left behind in Italy were building a deadly empire.)”
