Description
There was some time a small Finnish, fan made downloadable game, named "Mörköpeli". It is not there anymore, but some Finnish youtubers made fun playing videos about it. I got so many laughs while watching them.Moomins are very popular thing in Finland and my own childhood favourite character happened to be this brown, big eared Nipsu (Sniff). My current fave is Mörkö (Groke) herself. Holy hell she traumatised so many kids who happened to see her in the Moomins animation series.

Ah, yes. I remember the Groke. Gave me nightmares as a child, but she's my favorite Moomin character after learning how lonely she is.

It's interesting to see how many others have the same thing: they feared groke as a child but then she came their fave. Same thing with me, even tho I wasn't actually terrified of groke.

Well, to be honest here, I never feared the Groke by day when I saw her. But, for some reason I had nightmares of her by night, it even went for a couple of years I had those nightmares as a child.
That old Moomin anime I first saw her in technically started it all. Didn't helped either over those moments the show got away with.
I think why people later start to like her were possibly because of later getting to know more of her and gets to understand her. Therefore removing the threat.

Mulla on joku hämärä muistikuva Mörköpelistä. Tosi hämärä. 
Nipsu oli aina munki lemppari. Aina hoardaamassa niitä kiiltäviä kultakolikoita ja muuta arvokasta, mokomakin harakka.
Oot kyl piirtäny Mörön just niin creepyksi ku se aina oli. Myöhemmin sitä alko käydä sääliksi, reppana vaan haluaa seuraa. xD

Jeps, sillä hahmolla ei juurikaan ole myönteisiä piirteitä, mutta silti se jotenkin on hyvin viihdyttävä tyyppi.

I didn't see much of the series, but Groke from the book is tragic and still spooky!
They're good books and it's cool that the Moomins are more widely known now.

I think it's making a comeback, actually. If I read right they got copyright struck because, well, Moomins, so they're remaking the story, characters, etc to avoid further strikes but the concept remains the same, and they're half way to completion (see teaser here www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwbCeE… ). Not available for download yet, though. Production issues of some sort that caused them to miss the deadline.
Also yes, that walking, growling, ice-demon is... simultaneously pure nightmare fuel and a tearjerker. Didn't help the Finnish version of the show was darker so that it appeared even scarier than necessary.

Indeedly, I did read the same thing and it sounds good. I can understand that copyright thing because moomins is huge thing and it is very keen to guard their rights.
But that time when game was downloadable, it got that feel of Groke-terror just right. And you're right with the Finnish moomin animation, it has a lot darker coloring than the original and that made the huge scaring effect with Groke.
