Description Robyn had picked out the perfect costume, or at least she felt it was perfect for her expedition to try and tame the lilac black sphinx the villagers who had found her called “Spider.” After all, what would a spider want most?
A fly of course!

While her costume was not super intricate, it had been fun to put together the gray net fabric that covered her black sweatshirt, and black jeans and boots. The wings she had fashioned out of tracing paper covering a light gray foam she had carefully carved into an oval shape. She wore a harness to help keep the wings in place, which was also useful for storing a few supplies.
Since the village where Spider hung around was a fair way from home base she was also borrowing a tokota for the ride from a friend, a lilac dire named System. Robyn just hoped all this black would bring her luck with the dark tokota.

First, though they would have to track down the sphinx, which according to the rumors would be as simple as following a trail of spiders. Robyn sincerely hoped this was just a rumor though and more traditional tracking methods, but the noise of the chains around Spider's neck should make it at least a little easier. Robyn patted System's neck, "You're going help me find Spider, don't worry, not a literal spider, or least I'm hoping to avoid those today." The pair circled the village as Robyn scanned the ground for paw prints. It looked like a few others had beat her to the chase, and the townsfolk barely seemed fazed to see a stranger pass by, though some did a double take at her fly costume.

System covered the ground steadily, following the trail of prints quickly with her long strides, and it wasn't long before they were following just one set of prints, fresh ones too. Unfortunately, though she heard some water close by, she just hoped the sphinx hadn't waded into the stuff, it would her harder to track, and with it being fall and getting dark so early if it got too late the dark body of the wild tokota might be hard to spot. The water would also likely be cold, and while Robyn would have felt fine fording a small creek with the dire she didn’t want to risk the health of the loaned companion.  Also she wasn’t sure how the upper parts of her costume would fair once wet. She dug out her map to try and estimate her current position following the path thus far with her fingertips. Frowning she saw what lay ahead was indeed a river, though the map didn’t specify how deep the water was, the body of water could spell the end of the road for this trip.

However, luck seemed to be on her side as Robyn and System grew closer to the source of the water Robyn swore she was hearing another sound, like wind chimes in the distance. Was that the sound of Spider's infamous chains? Deciding to stray away from the trail Robyn steered System toward the sound, slowing the dire's pace so as not to startle Spider if the sphinx was out here.
Fortunately, Robyn didn't have to wait long until she spotted the shadowy form of the sphinx. Sure, enough as she got closer she could see the noisy culprit that was wrapped around their neck. She slowed System even more, and slowly reached her hand into one of her supply bags, bringing out some chunks of deer jerky. System whined softly at the smell, and Robyn smiled. If the dire wanted some of the treats surely Spider could be enticed over as well.
Finally, Robyn got close enough that she felt getting closer atop the dire was just going to spook the wild tokota. Sliding off the dire's back she patted System, motioning for the tokota to stay put and left a handful of the jerky for them to snack on.

Inch by inch Robyn neared the sphinx, who was now pretending to ignore her, but Robyn could see the tokotas eyes tracking her even though the sphinx's head was low. Robyn could tell now that the tokota seemed to have their gold and bronze colored chains caught on a thorny bush.
Robyn reached her hands, showing the sphinx that they held nothing in them, and she lowered her shoulder posture. She meant Spider no harm. Now that she was closer to the dark tokota she could see the old scars that had been described by the TCA on the tokota's face, as well as the TCA tag. First Robyn tossed a bit of deer jerky towards the wild, squatting so as the seem less threatening.
Spider glared down at the food, a suspicious look crossing her face before she sniffed hungrily, and Robyn heard System's distant whine, the dire wanted more of the treat, but the priority here was the wild tokota. She just hoped the dire could resist so she could help Spider get out of this sticky situation. Once the sphinx had decided the food was safe Robyn covered the remaining ground between her and the sphinx quickly. Her hands worked deftly at the tangle of thorns while she wished she had taken the time to put on gloves.

The wild's chains clinked as Robyn worked, and Spider growled, ears laying back. Robyn paused, fingers stinging, she started talking quietly to the tokota. "Look girl, I know I'm real close to your neck right now, but I'd appreciate not getting bit. I'm just trying to free you then you can and romp and hang out with your many-eyed friends, okay?" One of her fingers had started bleeding from a nasty prick, but she had to get this tokota free. Deftly Robyn finished untangling the tokota, and would have scooted backward as quick as she could but her netting had now caught in the thorns. Robyn held her breath, body leaning back as she tried to free herself, but the wild tokota growled again and Robyn stopped moving, her suit's wings trembling for a moment before they too stilled. Was this how a fly felt, caught in the spider's web?
Spider's eyes seemed drawn to Robyn's costume and the tokota lowered her head to sniff at Robyn. Robyn, on the other hand, had barely drawn a breath in the last minute. While Spider had never threatened any of the villagers the sphinx was still wild. Finally, the wild seemed to make up her mind and spun away, not looking back at Robyn.

A warm lick on the back of Robyn’s neck a moment later and she jumped a little before turning to see System standing. “A lot of help you were” she muttered to the dire. She freed her netting from the bush before motioning walking forward, starting to follow the sphinx, there was still daylight left and she had a Spider to catch.
