prompt: mushrooms

In LOTR, Gollum seems to not miss having normal food in favor of worms, raw carp, fingers, etc., or at least he would rather be a jerk to Sam than eat a potato. But I would think that there must have been some point in the long stretch of time when he was trying and failing to find Bilbo Baggins when he encountered some food he used to like, and had some interest in trying to eat it. And then he probably would have run into the ‘oh no, the food tastes bad, i guess i only eat raw meat now because I am a monster’ vampire/werewolf trope

‘She can’t do anything anymore’ sounds ominous, but Gollum did not kill his grandmother (he really didn’t, that’s canon, she kicked him out first). He’s just remembering that his whole family must be dead by now and muttering about it. i probably could have thought up a better line but i want to be done with my silly daily prompt and move on with my life.

DISCLAIMER: Oyster mushrooms are real and you really can eat them. They don’t really look like that, though, because it only occurred to me to look up what might actually be edible & grow on a tree after I drew the art. It is up to you whether to accept the wonky art as what it is called & not what it looks like, or decide that Gollum misidentified those mushrooms after sitting in a cave going slowly insane for 500 years, and will henceforth decide anything that’s not raw meat is inedible because he tried to eat poisonous fungus once and it didn’t taste good. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
