THE CONSCIENCE

“Life is composed of lights and shadows,
and we would be untruthful, insincere, and saccharine
if we tried to pretend there were no shadows.”
- Walt Disney
(THE SORCERER)

Who decides what is right and what is wrong?

The Conscience hears the ‘FIVE’ voices of reason and questions, inquires, and takes time to deduce what is truly good and evil. The ‘FIVE’ voices of reason ask these ‘FIVE’ Questions:

    Is it lawful?
    Is it moral?
    Is it beneficial?
    Is it rational?
    Is it precedented?

The reason the Conscience listens to ALL of these voices is because they understand an important law of the universe. Right and wrong is complex. Just because a thing is lawful does not mean it is moral. Just because it is beneficial does not mean it is rational...and so on and so forth.

These ‘FIVE’ questions are NOT just ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions. The Conscience uses them a launching platforms to internal and external conversation and perpetual construction and reconstruction of their moral code.

Morality is a very personal experience of feeling
‘good’ because you did what you thought was ‘good’.

It’s about that time when you looked at a situation or person with a little more suspicion than normal. Questioning something or someone means you care enough about it or them, that you are willing to test to see if the incident in question is making you adjust your personal moral code. Doing so will help discover if a shift in your moral code is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ for you.
