Now this is something I'm SUPER pumped about. Star Wars was such an inspiration to me as a kid and I remember thinking time and time again "I wish I could do Star Wars art!". Well, whaddaya know. I get to do Star Wars art! Fantasy Flight Games is releasing their new Star Wars living card game soon and a couple of my cards were spoiled at the previews at GenCon. The first card I did for the game was none other than Darth Vader. I'm really humbled that my art director felt comfortable enough giving me the task to create art for the most badass sci-fi villain of all time. Rarely do we get to see Vader dealing with rebel scum in such a direct way, so I'm sure you can imagine how giddy I was when I got the initial prompt.Image ©Lucasfilm, LTD and Fantasy Flight Games

Holy shazbot! I love how you drew the laser wound of the one republics trooper's arm that Vader is facing! And everything around Vader is so enjoyable to look at, so rich of details and full of nice colours!! ^^

Haha well as I said to someone else, you can't very well have Vader slaughtering a bunch of people without lopping someone's hand off - it's like his main fetish in battle! But at least for this piece I was thinking that the soldier in the foreground would have been instinctively raising his arm in defense of the deathblow that was coming to his chest. So the arm was just collateral damage.

Where does this art take place? Because I have a feeling that this is in Tantive IV (I may have mistaken the name), a rebel ship that was boarded by a Star Destroyer in the introduction scene of The New Hope.

It's definitely inspired by that scene, but the actual art brief didn't call for anything more specific than a hallway in a rebel hideout. So I was imagining something more akin to an underground bunker or something.
