Description This image is not available for use by anyone else.
Created entirely in Photoshop, using a Wacom Intuos 4 large tablet. Mostly painted (default photoshop round brush) with a few building textures thrown in (my own photographs, taken in Bristol, UK and then shrunk down and twisted this way and that) plus a sky from one of my own photographs, which has been manipulated loads. Took about 1 month to do, mainly weekday evenings here and there.
Siberia is the name of the organization that controls the city. This was done for a short film. Animation would be added later i.e. vehicles, lights etc.

Youre quite welcome and custom brushes are your best friend once youve learnt how to make your own, My advice to get a decent camera; 10 MP, and take some photos of things you can use, a great example is a time I took a macro shot of some moss and then by using the color selection tool got the parts that i wanted then just went to "define brush preset". It helps if you have a pressure sensitive tablet though Great job though on the image! Sorry for the late reply though ..

Cheers for that! I have been looking into it! It is very easy to create custom brushes, which I didn't realize before.
I can see what you mean about a camera - getting the right texture at high resolution isn't easy when searching for images online and finding a particularly suitable brush for free online is quite difficult too.
I can already see what can be achieved by using a textured custom brush and I WILL definitely start using them as it must really speed up work. I just used one to paint rocks and it was so quick compared to manually painting the endless details with a default brush. Thanks for your tip - I am revolutionized!

Hi mate! Sorry for the late reply been busy with university ^^'

Im glad you checked it out! It is super easy but having the right resources can help alot. Also if youve got a bit of spare money whenever I suggest you pickup a copy or two of "Digital Artist". They always have a ton of resources and some great tips on using them!

And using textured brushes is alot better for painting natural things like vegetation and rocks like you said, cos its harder to create those tiny random details with a hard brush. If you want I will send you some of my brushes sometimes! I dont have many but they have helped in the past.

One last thing, I reccommend you practise making brushes, you dont always get it right the first time so dont be afraid to create variations of the same brush to make better brushes. I hope my advice helps you ^_^

Im glad I was of help. Its a good feeling knowing that you inspired someone to try something new. Until next time!

But can I ask, do you use custome brushes or is it all preset? because if it's preset, well... my god!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JamesLedgerConcepts In reply to Jetstream77 [2011-11-21 17:40:48 +0000 UTC]

All default presets - custom brushes are far to complicated for me! I paint tiny details which seem to work best with very simple hard edged brushes. Only on occasion have I used custom brushes as a stamp.
