Description
Once there was a man who caged a bird. The man lived alone in the forest and one day, going for a walk, he found a wounded bird. He decided to take it home and nurse it to full health. Well after nursing it back to health he decided to keep it for company as it was such a cheerful and boisterous bird, it's voice had brought joy to the man's sad life.
Why was his life sad? The man trusted no one, loved only himself, and scorned and hated anyone who didn't see the world his way. His life before then had been a lonely one filled with neglect and lies from the people who were supposed to love him. Thinking this way he lived his days alone from humanity's eyes in hopes of never being hurt by people again. Once he had decided to keep the bird he taught it to come and go as he pleased, the man would call for it, and it would come back. Knowing this he would let the bird out once a day to go eat and play with its companions.
This continued for some time, the bird would eat and drink its fill, then after, play with its bird kind. After sometime had passed the man started to get selfish, until he realized the bird was having too much fun without him, when in return the man was reminded of how lonely and miserable his own life was without it, so in this regard, he started calling the bird back sooner and sooner. Till the only thing the bird could do was eat and drink, before it was called back. The bird was very flustered that it had no time to play with its friends, but it owed the man its life, so each time it would come at every beck and call of the lonely man. After some time of this the bird had started to have what people call 'Stockholm Syndrome' this is when a captive often times starts empathizing or even loving its captor. In this scenario it was the later for the bird. The bird had convinced itself that the man was the only company it needed to be happy. After a while it stopped going out altogether, convinced that even though they were of two different species, and different personalities, their love could conquer anything.
The bird eventually starved to death, leaving the man all alone again. Only now, he had realized what loving something other than himself felt like and, was left off all the more lonely then before.
