Description
As of January 31, 2009, it's been ten years since "Family Guy" made its debut on FOX. And oh boy, what a difference a decade makes.I won't try to pretend that I'm still entertained by this show, because I'm not. I won't even try to paint a picture of the first three seasons as the perfect example of what the show could be, because that's not true either (even the so-called "glory years" tended to be mediocre at best). But at least in the spirit of Seth MacFarlane's trademark cutaways to things that are only tangentially related to what's going on, I can remember the time, way back in 1999, when these characters showed promise.
What'll the next ten years bring? I'm not sure I want to think about that...

i just realized that before the girl who played Jackie Berkheart (i forget her name) became the voice of Meg ppl actually treated Meg like a human being. but now that she has a different voice actress they made her family treat her like crap...it bugs the crap out of me...

"Remember when this show was actually funny and not use to preach some left wing propaganda?"
Not that I don't mind talking about opionins, its just that it got to the point that it's annoying. Almost every episode has Brian preach about how "God dosen't exsit" or "Republicans are EVILLLLLL".
Look Seth, we get it. You're a liberal and an athiest. Stop your whinning for 5 fucking minents and actually deliver some damn jokes!

Yes, thank you! Each to his own I guess but... Give me a new Simpsons over a "classic" Family Guy any day.

That line from family guy is over used and is used to stall time from the show and make something random and stupid

I like the earlier episodes better. Meg wasn't treated like a freak, Stewie just being a smart, evil baby...Now it has way too much insults in almost all of the newer episodes.

HAHAHAHAHA, so true! I did sort of like the earlier episodes, but now it's completely unwatchable. The writers just keep thinking of newer, more disgusting and offensive ways to push the envelope, which somehow qualifies as "entertainment" to many people. It's basically the McDonald's of comedy: cheap, nutrition-free and homogenized crap for people who don't understand real humor (teenagers, frat boys, unemployed slackers, and anyone with the mental capacity of any of those.) It's truly getting closer and closer to the things people hate about it. For example, I know when Meg shows up, she'll inevitably get abused. *yawn* And I do like her - another reason I prefer the old episodes.

LOL, This makes sense, but what made me mad the most, was when they started treating Meg like crap. She's by far the only normal one in the family. I'd watch South Park, but that's super offensive, almost as offensive as Sarah Silverman (but I still watch her, because, unlike SP, it has boundaries when it comes to being offensive)

I used to find family guy HILARIOUS! but just recently i've found it less and less funny.....not to mention I'm a bit pi$$ed off that Seth's made two other shows which are just terrible rip-offs of family guy (american dad and the cleveland show)
Still, Stewie is still pretty funny.....and yeah I remember when people didn't treat Meg like crap....where did the sudden "we never wanted our daughter" plotline come from?

I'm hardly what anyone would call a "Family Guy" fan, but I will defend "American Dad" to my dying day. Anybody who calls it a "Family Guy" ripoff demonstrates that they have never even watched the show, as it's pretty much the polar opposite of what people expect from Seth MacFarlane - it has smart humor, it has actual strong storylines, its characters are three-dimensional, and it doesn't use pointless cutaways or unmotivated pop culture references. "American Dad" is everything "Family Guy" haters wish "Family Guy" could be.

I do LIKE "American dad", I guess it's because I noticed there seems to be a weird family mould in all Seth's shows (childish dads, awkward teenagers, I know this sounds petty but I just happened to notice it) going on here which makes me compare it to family guy.
but hey, different opinions is what makes the world go around!

It's just not my kind of humor. It's too light; it claims to be groundbreaking, but it doesn't offer me anything I haven't seen before. It may offer a cheap laugh now and again, but its ratio of hits to misses has been way too large for me.

Family Guy use to be hilarious, but recently it just has lost its touch. Now when I watch I might get a few laughs here and there. They just try way to hard make the point that Stewie is gay, everyone hates Meg, and that Brian is an atheist. And Louis has like 2 personalities, one is do everything right and dont do wrong things, and then one is a sex obssesed whore. And they ruined Cleveland.Peter is like the only funny regular character now

Why didn't I choose to watch you earlier when I saw your Goodbye, Quahog? You seem to be right on the mark with these things!
You're absolutely right. I hate the way everyone treats Meg, but there are SO many more reasons why Family Guy just isn't as funny as it used to be.
Another big reason for me is just all the offensive sexual jokes they try to pass off as comedy. I personally don't find Quagmire and that old pervert that stalks Chris(I can't remember his name) funny at all.
Peter's negative attitude towards woman is another reason.
Brian's Self-Rightousness.....
Stewie's questionable sexuality.....
I can honestly go on and on with this. Thank God for America Dad, which may very well go down the same path someday.
