Christmas day had brought perfect mild weather with a lot of sunshine here, and yesterday began the same way. Only in the afternoon the sky clouded heavily and some "wet snow" started to fall.This shot was taken shortly after sunrise at the Loosdrechtse Plassen, beautiful big lakes some 4 to 10 miles west of Hilversum/The Netherlands. Lakes that are great for boating, for fishing and - at certain places - for swimming. And in the winter for dreamlike scating. Oh, if we had such a winter again ... and if only I was young again!

Well, it is a difference if you learnt skating as a child, as people do here, or only at the age of 29. Never got so good at it. And do not like the idea of falling with my "old" bones now, being 62 in the meantime.

A breathtaking capture. The reflections so perfect upon the still waters. I also remember the ditches around my island where the dykes are freezing and seeing kids skating with bright red cheeks, scarves around their necks and gay little woolen caps upon their heads. We don't have icicles either hanging from the eaves of our homes. Winter as it used to be is no more. So sad ......... but oh well ... Well done on a great photo.
