Description Next to the fallen oak-tree there are standing two more, still alive and well. So there will be green leaves in spring on this field again! And while the fallen one rests, the living ones will thrive on, hopefully for many more years to some time long after we all live.
Taken near Maartensdijk/The Netherlands.

A very lovely scene & good to know there are young ones

As you can see from my latest submissions there was a row of three oak-trees in that field, all of the same age. It is the middle one that has gone now.

Sad but it makes more room for the two others to spread

No worry, there was room enough, as you can see on my latest shot: [link]
I actually wonder why this one died.

Nature has a wonderful way of clearing the old & making room... they do have really big roots

Indeed we can trust to nature to bring up a lot of new young life. But it remains a pity when the old giants go.

These are beautiful and come into their own! Keep watching out for a new shoot to come out of where the old one lies in death..

Lovely shot!

LOL! No - no! That would take away the sheer magic of it happening spontaneously for you! It's something to look forward to! It happens!

Hurrah for the longevity of noble trees!
I love the long shadows across the crisp, frosty feild, like some vast, iced pastry

Also a very nice oak tree. When you are tired of working in the fields...a nice place to rest for a few minutes in the shade.
