Description
This is the tutorial that so many of you have request for, this is a step by step on how I paint my hair in my paintings. I have used Clara’s beautiful face from my painting “Clara from Journey to the centre of the Tardis (below)” I have removed all of her hair and have painted without any references Clara with blonde hair in a style that came to my head. I wanted to show you all just how easy it is to paint volume realistic hair. With my Eye, Nose, Mouth and ear tutorial, you can learn to do a realistic face to paint the hair on but I have also included a template from my Clara painting without any hair so you can download it and follow my step by step method and paint the beautiful hair yourself.
Please feel free to download the bust of Clara to practise on, I would love to see your interpretations.
I hope you all like this one
I hope that you can take a little something from this

Hmm I dare say I disagree with the comments above...
My main objection is that the hairline goes too high, implying there is skull that high. There is also the fact that we can usually see some hair on the sides of the face, near the ears, they are absent here. I must notice, though, that in your "Clara", you did both points right. Lastly, you are painting very few large "strands"(thin ones, you have, but no "section" of hair), the hair hardly overlaps in your image, front and far hair flow nearly in the same direction, which looks unnatural, further hair should partially be covered.
Apart from that, I'm afraid I can only offer criticism on principles and am unable to give you how to apply them for tools etc... and I'm kind of sorry for that because the process you are using looks terribly long : /
Good luck, though, hair is hard to master ! And I'll always be interested in reading your tutorials !

Thanks for taking the time to comment. The whole reason I did this tutorial and all the others was people was asking me how I painted. I'm self taught and this is how I paint. I could have easily not used a head and just painted hair in space but I wanted to show people how I start from scratch to paint hair like I do. If I wanted to paint hair perfectly, I would have used a reference photo with an actual head with head and copied it. But in this example I just painted any style that popped into my head.
If people don't like the way I paint then there are plenty of other methods out there and I'm sure mine might not be the best way but it works for me. The actual process of my hair only takes around 40 minutes on a painting that takes in total 6 hours but it only looks long as I wanted to break it down to 25 steps

Hmm as you want. My preference goes to in-context and commented tutorials (although I like your step-by steps a lot they nearly don't need a comment) because I believe it helps educating one's sight and a teaches a good theorical conception. Partial in these two fields would mean I need something else in addition for myself or for the person I would share the link with.

About thirty minutes to complete. Not as good as yours, but shows how easy it is, and I appreciate the head was only acting as a mannequin,
