The golden pond attracts much attention
Only by light may its surface be marred
Would-be ripples are held in suspension
The presence of life around it is barred
If one would dare touch it, then one would die
And leave its smooth surface just slightly scarred
Temptation and beauty together vie
’Gainst a kind of knowledge held in one shard
Of time and wisdom observed by the eye
What good is beauty that cannot be held?
And what good is trying to tame the sky?
What beauty and love must together weld
Is that what must covet and hold for long
Like the melodic tune of nature’s song.
