Description
Apr. 17 '07This is a little strip I'd come up with a last February, actually. But I kept putting it aside for... no apparent reason. I wanted to have it done BEFORE Pokemon Diamond/Pearl came out though. So, I finally started it this weekend.
The Emerald girl trainer is drawn to represent me. When playing games, I usually put myself in the hero's shoes. I think it's just more fun that way. All of the other trainers are meant to simply be themselves. On a side note, I never noticed until doing this picture, but the Emerald boy trainer has a really cool shirt. I want one.
I'd also like to point out, I've never actually "caught 'em all". I'm in my twenties, so I'm hardpressed to find someone else who's just as big a Pokemon fan as I am that I could trade with. That said, I'm really looking forward to Diamond/Pearl and trading with people I don't even know.
Anyway, this comic was a hefty project but I enjoyed doing it and I think it came out really well. But tell me what you think.

Sure. Everything else was artistically based off something within the game itself, but since there are incidentally no "people doctors" in the game, I had to make my own.
But of course, if you want to use him, go for it.

Hmm... I'm also shocked when I'm met the Sinnoh Region... and sometimes, I saw a golden magikarp...

Nice. I still haven't caught them all, though I've done technically better than I ever have before in Diamond.

Cool. Even in Diamond where I vowed I would finally catch them all, I'm still quite a bit away from my goal. I think it's my lack of trading. Oh well...

that is so true, I thought the same thing. Because I caught really every pokemon from all the games (accept the legendary's )
But I really like you style of drawing it blends in well with the pokemon style, what did you use to draw ad color this??

Believe it or not this picture was very minimalist. I drew it with my trusty mechanical pencil. It's actually not even inked. But then I scanned it and colored it in Photoshop. My half-assed but suprisingly effective (I think) shading is simple burn and dodge tools.
Thank you very much for the comment.

There may be a more effective use for them but Burn and Dodge darken or lighten colors respectively. Using them in what I feel are the right spots, (I admit, I have no concept of lights and shadows) ends up giving my pictures some decent shading.

Sadly, I could probably name all of them by memory. Not in order mind you, but I could name them all.

Like I said on RRR; it's funny because it's true. I like your style. It's not too serious and yet not too goofy. Good job!
...Good luck catching them all.

Heh... I'm sort of determined to get them all in Diamond. Somehow. Even if that means I have to go out and buy a copy of Sapphire, Leaf Green and Pearl to do it.
Y'know... whenever I have money again...

I love it! Your art style lends itself well to the Pokemon world. Are they really that awesome, though? I'm still sour about losing over $100 (collectively) in cards from the fad when it first hit US shores. The games always did look sorta fun, though. Think I should pick up Diamond/Pearl?
Also, I love putting myself in the characters' shoes. When I made my old "The Dos and Don'ts of Vaardenfell" comic strip for Morrowind PC, I made my character look like me, only blue (she was a dunmer, or dark elf for those that don't play) It's always great fun to apply your own twist on things, especially like you have with this. I think you make a cute trainer!

I would absolutely recommend any of the MAIN Pokemon series games to anyone. The spin-offs are all pretty weak at best. But the main series games are some of the most fun I've ever had playing an RPG. Plus, they can keep you busy for a long time; and since the story's not so important, it's really easy to pick up again even if you haven't played in months.
Thanks for your critique too!

Well alrighty, then! Lemme know which one you get so we can trade between game carts (assuming there are different pokemon on each cart)
I'm sorta torn between maybe this or Etrian Odyssey.

I'm leaning towards Diamond myself (I guess there is some truth to that whole "girl's best friend" thing). But in every release, one version always vastly outsells the other for some reason. I think Diamond will be the bigger seller; call it a hunch. I'll get Pearl if I have to though. I'll probably make a journal entry again when I get it, because damned if I'm ever gonna stop talking about it.
Etrian Odyssey looks interesting too... and Chocobo Tales...
