I always make Joe's work bigger so I can appreciate these fine points....and you are so right, people aren't seeing them Shame, such intricate details get missed because people look but don't "look"

This is well done, but the positioning of the sword is very unfortunate. I'm afraid it does read as more a bodily function, instead of sexual [which I believe it's meant to be].
I see that several other comments are flagged or hidden, and assume it's because they mentioned the same thing so I'm expecting this might get flagged as well. But I'd like to suggest if you'd rather not get critiques on your images, you might want to say something to discourage them in your description.

Im sry i dont react good at peeing fire lava, this suck etc, these type of comments get spammed and later blocked. And regarding your comment is according every person perspective. There are only few people that felt that either the girl has a weird perspective, or the sword or to remove the fire etc, i respect your opinion but i dont agree with it.

ShyCustis In reply to JoeDiamondD [2011-05-11 17:54:34 +0000 UTC]
If the other comments were that disrespectful, then it's understandable why you would flag them. As for my own, I only hope that you can take it as helpful, and if you don't agree I understand that. I only intended to point out that, to many people, that is what this image conveys.

after hours of work all you can see it's the flame sword...
why don't you say about the parts that you like just
as much as you talked about what you don't like?
You say "well done" ,2 words and after that here comes 50-70
words about what you don't like!
Do you think you could of done better with this model?

ShyCustis In reply to TitusBoy25 [2011-05-11 17:44:36 +0000 UTC]
Again, if you would not like honest, respectful critiques of your work, I would highly suggest that you say something in the description.
My comment was meant as constructive criticism, as something to be helpful.
The image is well done and polished, but because the content [the model and sword, and how they are positioned together] is awkwardly displayed it's hard for it not to be a big deterrent for the piece. The woman and the sword are the focus of the image, and if the focus has something that's off about it, it's going to contribute to the overall effect of the image.
If it were something strange or a little off with a background element, it wouldn't be as off-putting.
So as good as the technique may be, the awkwardness of the content is unfortunately overwhelming.

Your gallery is respectful so i cant say you must not critique, just remember in a manipulation we depend on the stocks/photo and we cant draw. Even if im trying to see what you see, i cant, maybe you are right maybe you are not. We are not disrespectful but we are really really tired of spamming

ShyCustis In reply to JoeDiamondD [2011-05-11 19:32:00 +0000 UTC]
Even if someone's not very talented with drawing, or art in general, can still give good critiques. The ability to give good criticism isn't just tied to the person's own talent. But the thing that matters is that it's respectful, so if people weren't being respectful then your irritation is justified.

TitusBoy25 In reply to ShyCustis [2011-05-11 20:17:21 +0000 UTC]
I strongly believe that the ability to give good criticism is tied to the person's own talent and experience...i will never criticize a manga&anime, fractal, pixel art, vexel or abstract photography.
I have no experience on that, don't know the software, the technique and so on...
We should stick to talk about the things we know from our experience,at least that's what i do.

ShyCustis In reply to TitusBoy25 [2011-05-11 20:50:19 +0000 UTC]
It doesn't take an experienced eye to see most basic things in art and photography.
There are many people who have little or no artistic talent at all and could still look at any given piece and pick out something that's off with it. It's honestly quite demeaning to say people who lack artistic talent [or experience in a specific field] couldn't understand or add something in art just because they don't have the experience.
Another point; different fields and mediums of art aren't so excluded from one another that you can't have constructive comments about something that doesn't pertain to your own particular field. In this case, that is particularly true since the elements causing many people to feel something's off with the image isn't a technical aspect of the piece. It's a compositional aspect, and composition is something that spans across all forms of art, and is something that even unskilled uncreative eyes can spot.

I see..so everyone can be a critic according to you...no matter the knowledge,no matter the skills and experience...
I just don't agree that!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ShyCustis In reply to TitusBoy25 [2011-05-12 07:47:11 +0000 UTC]
Everyone has the right to have an opinion and to voice that opinion so long as it's given respectfully. The more skill and experience one has, the better their critiques will be, but most people even without any artistic talent can still give good feedback on basic elements in art because of the basic perceptions we have as humans.
We don't have to agree. I'm quite happy to agree to disagree. But it's still a good suggestion that you [and your friend] might want to mention on your pieces that you don't want critiques in the future, if you can't take constructive criticism well.

TitusBoy25 In reply to ShyCustis [2011-05-12 10:47:49 +0000 UTC]
I'm ok with good criticism, what's i wont accept is disrespectful/rude opinions like peeing fire or lava, tampons and other nasty stuff like that.
Regardless your opinion that "mention on your pieces that you don't want critiques in the future" as far as i know when you submit a work you can enable an option called "request critiques" especially meant for that,to get critics. However we didn't...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ShyCustis In reply to TitusBoy25 [2011-05-12 19:20:40 +0000 UTC]
But that's one of the many reasons artists post work here on DA, so everyone assumes comments are open for critiques unless you explicitly state otherwise.
The request critique option is for those who are actively seeking out crits, but over all, people that don't request them are usually still open for constructive criticism on their work.
And it's sort of hard to politely state that the model looks like she's urinating fire or something of the like, but that doesn't change the fact that that's what it looks like at first glance.
Well, my criticism was good and respectful but you still got very bent out of shape about it. Some other comments that I saw before they were flagged were respectful, but they still got flagged or hidden. It's not hard to believe that you don't want anything negative said at all. If you're only looking for praise for your work here on DA, yet again I suggest just mentioning that you don't want crits in your descriptions. It's not difficult, it doesn't take hardly any time.
This conversation is going no where, so I'm going to drop it with any further responses. Good luck in the future. Hope this clears up for you.

Indeed, this conversation is going no where...i just don't get it and not expect an answer but still gonna ask:
Is that the position you take when you're urinating???Do you also pee fire???

if you look to the galleries of the people who spammed us, ull see that they are mostly retarded, people who steal art but not one decent designer made that comments. Why? Because its about how much IQ someone has. Not in a millions years i wouldnt think that pose could be seen like the woman is peeing or like someone said, insert her tampon. It really takes a retarded mind to see that ....
