Simple comp test.
Added comment, 10/29/2013 - Well maybe not so simple, actually took awhile to create. It was done in Maya software with Michael Comet' muscle system (AKA mayaMuscle.) I modeled the Skeleton, then the outer skin. I tried several muscle plugins - and mostly failed - I had to simplify the original version because I made to many muscles and my computer couldn't handle it. So I ended up using cMuscle with just these general massive shapes that work under the skin to jiggle and slide under the skin. I did the rigging, cause that's just another thing I do. I created a bunch of walk/run cycles to learn and test out how to improve the rig/skin.
Well there ya go - A T.rex! I'm glad I did it.
Added comment 10/30/13 I thought I could read/reply to all the comments people made, very very nice! Thanks, I will keep trying...Now it's gone up to 31 pages though.
Please don't be mad if I missed you
It was made with Maya software you can have a free version of the rig here >>> joel3d.com/TrexSkeletonRig.htm⦠<<< skeleton only
11/01/13 THANK YOU for all the comments! I can't keep up, I hope you understand.

Really cool- can I ask where you got the schematics for the muscles? Is this your own conception, or from a book? If you like building musculoskeletal systems, there's a freeware called AniMatLab that lets you start from the ground up (I think you can skip the neurons if you want). And then you can test them in a simulation environment!

Hello Gabriella -
On my first attempt I tried to make an accurate model of the major muscle groups - I studied the dinosaurs fossils and used comparative anatomy for months. I looked at all kinds of birds and animals, Chickens mainly. I have all kinds of sketches, blah blah...Then, I tried to build them with the first muscle system I was playing around with and it was way too computationally expensive. Just too much for the computer to handle, and for me too- haha!
Now days I use them - but just to get some interesting realistic jiggle/sliding effects. For animators it's nice free movement that can be adjusted fairly simply.
The muscles are there only to make a jiggle under the Skin. They have no reference to any real kind of anatomy. The other thing is that these muscles don't move the joints - the joints move with the help of an animator and the muscles just follow along for the ride.
I think that AniMatLab is an interesting, maybe in its infancy, but still. Looks like very simple dynamics vs. constraints. Kind of like a toy - build your own robot kit.

You say 'simple' but man, this must have taken you days. What software did you use to model and then animate this? Blender? 3DS?

Also, I'm curious about the red mass in the abdomen... I mean, that's not an actual piece of anatomy... is it just serving as a placeholder for the viscera to lend weight to the area? I see you did that to the throat as well.
