However, since you HAVE insisted on starting the argument...
Alicorn = ala (wing) + cornu (horn), both Latin in origin. The word alicorn has been used to describe winged unicorns for a number of years in fiction, most famously by Piers Anthony's "Demons Don't Dream." Lauren Faust, the creator of FiM, has confirmed that they are "alicorns." And the only reason we don't hear Celestia and Luna being called "alicorns" in the show is because it is redundant. There's only two of them, so you really only have to say "Celestia" or "Luna." If it weren't for Cheerilee, we wouldn't know Discord's species had a name, and he would only be "Discord." There is no reason to call him a draconequis in the show at all anymore. Likewise, since we know Celestia's and Luna's names, using the word "alicorn" would be redundant since they'll only be referred to as their names or the title of princess.

You could have gone ahead and not started the argument at all. You didn't HAVE to leave a comment on this fine picture saying "it's NOT alicorn" when the deviation has nothing to do with what the species is called.
Your initial comment would have been much better on a stamp or something saying that alicorn is, without a doubt, the one true name for ponies with wings and a horn. At least such a deviation would have invited such comments.
