Yaaaay. Rockstar made a fun game!After the utter shite that was GTA4, I thought they'd forgotten that games were meant to entartain rather than frustrate.

Word of advice:
Make sure to NEVER run over an officer of the law with your horse. They tend to frown upon that. I should know. That was my first mistake in the game.

Lol. Panel Six = Shotgun solves everything. I seriously don't care if the mini-critters blow up. I needs my shotgun to kill cougars. Those things come out of nowhere.

The Buffalo rifle takes care of cougars very nicely. Ironically the last hunting mission you have to do to get the buffalo rifle is to kill two cougars with your melee knife and collect their pelts. I died at least ten times by trying to knife a cougar without wounding it first.

fun fact to enjoying red dead redemption: use casual aiming mode in single an multilayer
the game will become easy, allowing you to have a life, while still enjoying the game
and yes cowboy/golum was awsome

Yeah, the game should pause when you select a weapon... Apart from that, I love it. 
Oh yeah... and then there's 'multiplayer'... Which lacks everything that makes the game so much fun...

I've run into #5 quite a bit. I also had the trouble of falling off cliffs when I first started out, it was kinda difficult to judge what was too steep and how close you could walk to the edge.
The new free multiplayer co-op DLC is awesome by the way if you haven't checked it yet.

RDR was awesome but the characters weren't as colorful as GTA4. They don't give you reason to hate or kill them with a vengeance. Like when you finally catch up to Bill Williamson, you'd just go "Oh well" not like in GTA4 where you'd want to make Dimitri pay!.

I wish they allowed you to make things with the diff't herbs, like potions/horsepills/deadeye stuff etc. to make it unique to hunting

I've had the lasso problem in reverse a few times - trying to lasso a horse and accidentally shooting it in head. Woops.

Out of curiosity, what's the free roaming multiplayer mode like in this game? Everytime I hear of it I can't help but think a little of Freelancer's own free-roam multiplayer, which would make the game feels almost like a mini self-contained MMO

Anytime,^^ Id say if your going to play online go with a bunch of friends, otherwise if your aim isn't dead on you'll be tasting that dirt quicker than you may wish to

Heh... generally most(which could also be read as: almost all) games I play onlines are almost exclusively with friends.
The only times I might not play with friends... well, generally will still be -with- friends -against- "ye olde randoms internet players".*
*(as I'm fond of doing in a game known at Men of War.... such a crazy WW2 RTS. AI is even a funny mixed bag. One time, when set on free will, a man will automatically go down to a crawl in front of a crater he knows holds an enemy, and automatically lob a grenade down it without you even ordering it.... then the next you'll have a full squad of 6-12 guys running tightly grouped into a machine gun nest as if it was a good idea... combined with a very realism(read: lethal) damage system it makes for a nice reproduction of the chaos of war.... except for when some "gamey" player exploit the fact that a scout inventory can still hold the 380mm rocket mortar shell of a sturmtiger and crawl behind an heavy tank to stealthily "drop" said shell and detonate it with dynamite for a way-too-much-micro kill.
Seriously, for how little known this game is it need to deserves some form of "How to play" or something but I wouldn't bug others... there's just way too many antics that can be pulled so much it's almost a sandbox a times ever if an RTS)
