Description These are based on the Japanese Koinobori, Basically, its a windsock decorated to look like a Koi Carp, which are then tied to poles, strings, and trees in celebration of Childrens day.

Lightweight - Doubles speed when its windy. Wind is a weather condition I came up with. It acts like a sandstorm but does not damage pokemon in battle. In wind, flying type moves would always hit first.

--------------------

Basic Stage: Koite - The Windsock Pokemon
Type: Flying
Ability: Lightweight/Insomnia
Name Meaning: Koi-Kite
Evolves: Air Stone

A fragile species, the slightest breeze can carry them off. As wind rushes through their hollow bodies, it acts like an energy boost. They cling to trees and lamp posts using their whiskers.

--------------------

First Stage: Beaufrail - The Streamer Pokemon
Type: Flying
Ability: Lightweight/Insomnia
Name Meaning: Beaufort-Frail

A pokemon often seen in festivals and shows, Its patterns and colour move beautifully as the wind blows through its hollow body. They are naturally attracted to the breeze, and so they can often be found congregating in windy areas, their whiskers wrapped round tall objects.

These Pokemon have been designed by me. Please do not steal or use them without my permission.

Nice redrawing, I've always liked this fakemon.

The Air Stone sounds interesting. A stone of air would seem like an oxymoron though.

Wow, I cannot believe I haven't started some kind of fight here long ago lmao.

What I mean is,
whenever anyone makes a primary Flying pokemon I have been stepping in and pointing it out, for like a decade.
I'm sure you noticed it more than the average fakemon artists, that Flying is a weird type, requiring extraordinary circumstances to deserve the first place of a pokemons type, as the closest it got for 4 generations was the job as a back-up for Normal in birds etc.

There has been a bird turning into a dragon, which is partially literally made of clouds, but the rare thing that happens to it type wise is that the primary type changes from Normal to Dragon, with Flying being the second type like for any other airborne creature.

Then there has been a 100% airborne balloon pokemon, but apparently that doesn't give Flying any priority over Ghost in this case, either.

So if being airborne, or made of clouds is still not enough then what in the world could possibly be?

My arguments on that issue are less powerful now with the advent of Tornadus obviously though.
While it is finally a definite proof that Flying as a main type is not an impossibility,
the problem with Tornadus is that it's part of a legendary trio,
and all 3 have essentiallye the same body base, while their types vary. So Tornadus doesn't give us any way to figure out what design is required, because there is 2 pokemon with the same design that are not pure Flying :S

While I have to admit this is the best candidate I have seen that might really work as a plain Flying pokemon, although Drifloon would still make me uncomfortable at giving it that typing.
Especially as the basis for this one is an inanimate object, which just screams Ghost type, even moreso with the button "eyes".

The design doesn't blow at all. Quite the opposite. I've been trying to come up with a floating object fakemon since Drifloon blew my mind, and this easily pwns all of my attempts so far.

Windy weather, genius!
They should really develop the wind aspect of the Flying type more. I guess Hurricane was a start in that direction .
More wind based attacks would make Flying feel more like an elemental type instead of just the extra "I got wings" notice.

The Dragon type, while adding an interesting flair to it, it seems forced. Dragon is a vague type I have to admit, when some obvious candidates like Gyarados didn't make it.
But hows this; Would it deserve being a Bug type if it had a shape vaguely resembling an insect?

I actually have quite a few primary flying types, my clouds, quills, and these.
I usually class something as primarily flying type when it doesn't land; i.e has no legs or is basically a cloud haha. But thats just me.

To me, Tornadus is pure flying because, whilst all 3 fly around at high speeds, and have a cloud design, they control other elements. Thundrus(Thunder/Lightning) Landorus(earth.. dirt) And Tornadus specialises in wind based moves, but no other type really fits that concept better than flying, which it already is, hence, singular typing.

I dont think that inanimate object screams ghost type. Plenty 'inanimate' Pokemon (Bronzor/Castform/Magnemite/Voltorb/Baltoy etc) are given a type best fitting to their attriubutes. Because these ones have that fishy look about them, they look more natural.

I can see what people are saying about the dragon though. I think I'll change it. Not like there aren't enough Dragon/Flying types out there. Pure flying first stage is a unique type combo in itself.

so basically if it's 100% airborne. It does makes sense as the full realisation of a Flying type. Although I'm still convinced that's not enough, because of Drifblim.

That is the logical explanation for their types, I couldn't agree more ^_^
I couldn't believe it at first, but when I saw them ingame and their movesets, I like them
People mostly dismiss them as stupid because of their similarity, like it's the first time this happened. Compared to the psychics from Sinnoh they have plenty of interesting differences and an awesome background.

Good point! I was going to say the difference for these is that they are more a form of mimicry instead of seemingly possessed objects, but I realise now its a poor argument lol..

Charming, original, colorful and designed well.

The only flaw is that Drakite has no reason to be a Dragon-type. Not every PokΓ©mon that vaguely resembles a dragon is a Dragon-type, and this should be the same for Fakemon.

JoshKH92 In reply to ArgentDandelion [2012-02-01 22:22:58 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I understand what you're saying... I guess my only arguement is Altaria

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ArgentDandelion In reply to JoshKH92 [2012-02-01 23:14:43 +0000 UTC]

My counterargument:
P'eng-niao (possibly synonymous with Peng) and the Hai-ryo.

P'eng-niao:

"P'eng-niao is a semi-dragon bird. Being half bird and half dragon, they seldom appear in Chinese Mythology.4"-[link]
"P'eng-niao appear in China. They are part-dragon, but mostly birdlike in appearance. Some sources cite these creatures as being half-bird and half-dragon, however."-[link]
"Bird dragons of Chinese myth. They either have the head of a Dragon and the wings and lower body of a bird, or a completely serpentine body, with feathered scales and birdlike wings, legs, and feet."-[link]
"A creature, part bird and part dragon."-[link]

Hai-ryo:
"The Hai-Riyo are also known as Tobi Tatsu and Schachi Hoko. These hail from the Land of the Rising Sun, Japan. They are "Dragon-Birds". They have the claws and wings of the bird as well as a bird's body, but retain the other draconic qualities. Much like the Chinese Ying-Lung, the Japanese viewed these as the most evolved of all dragons."-[link]
"On the screens decorating the Chi-on-in monastery in Kioto, are depicted several composite creatures, half-dragon, half-bird, which appear to represent the Japanese rendering of the Chinese Ying Lung or winged dragon. They have dragons’ heads, plumose wings, and birds' claws, and have been variously designated to me by Japanese as the Hai Riyo (Fig. 62), the Tobi Tatsu, and the Schachi Hoko."-[link]

Game Freak may have had some artistic license in giving Altaria a bird's head, but the Hai-ryo and p'eng-naio, Altaria's possible basis, are practically Dragon-type birds to begin with.

(You could never have known I had experience in these matters.)
