I took a walk tonight just to see if anything interesting was going on in the neighborhood. I didn't get far before I had my tripod out taking shots of all the simple little things around me. I believe that anyone can get a good photograph when placed in some extreme situation at the right time. The true beauty in photography comes from those that can take the scene that most people pass without notice, and turn it into something interesting...even if quite simple. That is most often achieved by simply taking a moment to look around. A moment to give a few seconds to the mundane. A moment to get down on your knees and look at things from a different level. I believe that true beauty can most often, not be found. You must let it find you.

Anyways, at one point my attention was drawn towards the BMW lot near my house. I wanted to find that calm soothing shot that you would expect to see on a billboard or bench seat somewhere. They're always trying to sell you something, and they always try to bring you to some utopia to do it. I guess their product will change your life. Don't they always? There is still someing comforting about them though...

That is how I feel about this image. Calm, surreal, and illusive. The soothing blur on the left was achieved by using a wide aperature and composing the shot with the headlights of one of the BMWs in the very near foreground. The reflections of city lights around me lit up the glass enough to cause a soft, surreal blur while I focused on the sign in the background. Shots like this too, it is good to set up the camera just slightly offset to throw out any vertical symmetry. Scenes don't feel free and unrestrained when you have too many straight up and down lines in them. This is a simple shot with a long description...but I hope that you like it
