Okay, admittedly, I don't follow the MLP series. HOWEVER, one of my best friends does, and has been bugging me for a while to at least give the EQG movies a shot.So. After finally watching both EQG movies, I figured, "Hmm...this could be a fun project to do..."
And that's how this little animation came about.

The animation was done in Flash, compiled/color-correctedΒ in AfterEffects, and exported as a .gif with Photoshop.

Oh wow. I honestly couldn't keep up with Flash when it comes to making a hand drawn animation style like this. I always get jaggered lines all the time. :/Β

Oh yeah, jagged lines are pretty much unavoidable in Flash, but that's why they gave us the smoothening/sharpening options.Β

I'm aware about the snoothing tool but it still gives the lines have a static look though. I mostly seen people using photoshop more when it comes to animating frame by frame. It's been gaining lots of popularity.

Static look? Well...that depends... I dunno, I've just been using Flash for so long that I tend to think around its mechanics by default.
I've never actually used Photoshop for animation, so I can't comment on how that works compared to Flash, although, yes, I've seen some pretty sweet stuff done with it.
Ultimately though, I think individual artists ought to just use whatever tool/software they find works best for them. Heck, I know a guy who does image editing with After Effects instead of Photoshop simply because he knows AE back to front.

Hmm interesting. Well you do have a point how artists stick with what's best for them. For me, I've been using both Photoshop and Flash to see what stands out better. I can't even choose one really. My guess is by making a style like this in flash should have more time making the lines look smooth enough. I tend to rush the line art; which is stupid for me to do now.

I'd say if it's hard to decide which one stands out better, start with the one with the most comfortable workflow. From there, you can always switch to the other if things aren't working out well, or you can even mix-and-match the best elements from BOTH programs.Β
But in any case, yeah, if you take a little more time with the line art, it'll pay off.
