frayed like cotton thread
root and tomb uplifted
taste of air and earth enmeshed
shreds
the grandmother of stillborn papers
crater left mourning
in sudden hollowness

amid clattering of leaves
the flock remains perched
in branches cracked,
broken and seething sorrow,

chirping morning song.
