Description
This map shows the most important factions on Calyrra 's home planet .Blue shows the extent of the Nimyric Empire, red that of the Pereqaian Alliance. In both cases, the darker shade marks the countries which make up this faction's core, while the lighter shade marks the countries which are associated to a weaker degree. The remaining colors show the countries which refuse to side with either of them.
The Nimyrites are controlling most of the largest continent, striving to unify the countries they control and to spread the gifts of civilization to those barbarians surrounding them.
In contrast, the Pereqaians are a rather loose alliance of individual nations who are mostly united by their common enemy - those arrogant, self-proclaimed saviors who force their own world view onto everyone else.
The polar regions are sparsely populated - a few isolated tribes here and there, but no real government and no involvement in the main conflict. Since these barren, icy lands are rather unattractive, neither superpower shows much interest in them. Both have made efforts to convince the remaining nations of their cause, both by diplomatic means and by force, but mostly succeeded in convincing those that both sides cause more damage than good.
Sometimes one superpower tries to invade and "free" one of the lightly-shaded countries associated with the other party, but in most cases the other side is already expecting them and ready to fight back. For the last few decades, there have not been any major changes in the amount of blue and red on the map - but both factions are busily preparing for the day this will change.
This is where the Forbidden Island comes into play - the site where the Nimyric military collects and studies anything not of this world, from apparently magical artifacts and beings to anything believed to come from outer space. And they have acquired some very promising assets...

This map was created in GIMP. I traced the outlines of the landmasses on the regular map, then subdivided them by drawing plausible borders, for example following natural barriers.
After that, I started playing with the colors until the amounts of red and blue looked fairly even, and I had a suitable number of non-associated countries left.
I still haven't gotten around to naming the nations that associate with one of the superpowers - I guess I'll post another map when I have them. For now, this is more readable anyway.
