What's this? The flowers aren't glowing? Oh no, Karen must've forgotten about that! No, I didn't. Remember what I said in an earlier post, about the flower that had remained dormant since dinner? Well, these are what one would call "dormant" flowers, and they don't start glowing until the Eeveelution that's wearing it uses their special move.
Well, now that that's outta the way...
Smiles went all around at the dinner table once again when Vaporeon walked in. She, like Jolteon, had told Karen that she was going to lie when asked, and she, too, said, "Well....we were training in the water, and then....poof! I could use Aqua Jet!"
None of the gang saw Espeon narrow her eyes, ever so slightly. Mostly because she only kept her suspicious expression for half a second, then she was smiling. She said, "That's incredible! I'm so happy for both of you! I'd love to see them, your special moves! Care to head outside and show me?"
Neither Vaporeon nor Jolteon suspected a thing. They just said, "Sure! Let's go!" and left the cave.
When all three were outside, Vaporeon and Jolteon turned to Espeon. Now, she wasn't hiding her suspicion at all. Eyes narrowed, she said, "Karen can't possibly be old enough to swim."
Vaporeon looked away, suddenly very interested in her flower. "She isn't."
"Is that how you got your special move, then? Trying to save Karen from drowning?" Espeon asked, her voice barely over a whisper to keep the rest of the gang, especially Flareon, from hearing.
Vaporeon's silence answered for her.
Espeon turned to Jolteon. "And you?"
Jolteon looked down at the ground. "Pidgeotto showed up."
Espeon herself looked down at this point. "Is this what we have to do?" she asked softly, more to herself than anyone. "Put Karen in danger to gain our special moves?"
There were several moments of silence after that. Suddenly, Espeon lifted her head. "Maybe not!"
Jolteon had known Espeon well, and feared at what she was getting at. "You're not gonna take Karen...."
"To Mystic Town? Why not?" Espeon asked.
Vaporeon answered. "Are you insane? Even with the training we've given her. she's still only Level 25 at most! And you of all Pokemon knows that Mystic Town is Trainer Central! She won't last 5 minutes!"
Espeon sighed. "Every Trainer in Mystic Town knows who I am. They've long since stopped challenging me. So long as I keep Karen by my side at all times, which I promise to do, she'll be fine. We'll just train until I gain my special move. It has to turn up eventually."
