To challenge myself I thought I would try portrait painting, as I did some years ago. But before posting this deviation, I looked at the date of my latest portrait. What a shock when I realized it's been... 5 years ! Where did the time go ??
Anyway, I guess it's better late than never so here we are. I want to try a 30 portrait challenge ! I will take my time but I think it'll be a good exercise to improve my skills.
I've also been following Gabrielle Brickey's tutorials on Skillshare on how to paint portrait and it's been super helpful for me.
►What did you learn from doing this study?
I've never painted black skin before so this was a real challenge for me, as for the tutorials I watched years ago were mainly focus on white skin. The reflection of the light is much more intense on black skin and it's challeging but so rewarding to paint ! And she's absolutely gorgeous.
►What did you find difficult?
Having a smooth skin, but that also looks like skin and not only glass. Finding the right mix between rough and soft.
►What area's do you wish to improve on?
