My favourite from my recent photoshoot with Johanna. Yes I actually asked her to hold the violin wrong.

It was freezing outside and later my two friends who were helping us made a small fire in a fireplace which we found in that abandoned house...

Makeup, hair, clothing and everything else by me.

It probably doesn't matter to most people, but for someone like me who has played the violin for years, making her hold the violin that way takes away from the picture.

Depends. Many violin players have said that the wrong position doesn't bother them at all, and some violin players don't understand what's incorrect

Both I and the model have played violin and we know how to hold it properly. I asked her to hold it wrong for a better composition. There are images uploaded to my stock account =Kechake-stock where she is holding it right.

I've played for 11 years, and it doesn't do a thing to me. It's art. Not a concert. You can feel the emotion of the piece, don't let the techniques of reality take away from it! ^^

That violin is amazing, and the whole soul of the picture makes me feel like I'm trapped in the music...

Beautiful photo
But why asking to hold it wrong? D=

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kechake In reply to DragOOnDedel [2009-11-11 10:10:23 +0000 UTC]

For a better composition, because this way the violin forms a dark cross in the center point of attention and thus the image will be more pleasing to look at. We have both played violin... so we're not that ignorant

DragOOnDedel In reply to Kechake [2009-11-11 10:52:16 +0000 UTC]

I didn't say you were ignorant Not at all, since you stated you wanted hold it wrong
I was just wondering why xD
And indeed, it's a very pleasant picture

Lovely set, emotion, and colors, but out of curiosity why did you ask her to hold it wrong?

For a better composition, making the violin the center point of attention.

LightsaberSquirel In reply to Kechake [2009-11-11 21:56:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh you meant sideways, I thought you were talking about the way her hand was holding the neck. No, I like it side ways, it makes her seem more into what she is playing.

Being a violist, I feel sorry for her poor wrist. Being an art-lover, I love the way this picture has so many contrasts. The red bow with the black violin, and the whole old 1700s look against an ocean backdrop is full of win. <3

This is just wonderful. Her dark shirt/corset and the black violin stand out so nicely against the light background. Really, a lovely job. I have to ask, though: how is she holding the violin wrong? I play violin, and only have for little over a year, so maybe I'm missing something. Either way, very nice.

The wrists will hurt if you play like that. At least they should. I haven't tried really.

Thanks a lot

Oh, I see it now! Yeah, that's what my teacher calls a "pancake wrist". Don't I feel special for figuring that out...lol. Very nice job, either way. The model herself is very lovely, and the picture quality is wonderful.

*le gasp* holding the violin wrong! what horror! lol only kidding. Beautiful picture, and gorgeous model. I've never seen a black violin before. Not enough violins on DA. (I've played for 12 years) Little obsessed with my hobby. I love this.

Kechake In reply to ineedsleepmhaha [2009-11-11 10:21:47 +0000 UTC]

The violin was bought from eBay, it's cheap and didn't make a sound for the first 6 months So I'm just using it as a prop for my photoshoots!

Lucky you, I've always wished my parents made me play violin when I was little

Ah. I see.It looks great, though.

My parents thought I'd drop it after a few months, so they never wanted me to take lessons.
