Description Yes, this was taken from my phone last night to post on my Twitter. I’m posting this from a McDonald’s so no high quality screen caps today.

Anyways, just wanted to share with y’all a new I thought up with to making comics a little faster but to do that, we have to go over how I would usually do it. I’d draw the layouts for the panels and composition, then I’d draw the characters, then I’d ink over the sketches, finish it off by adding shading and dialogue before starting up a new page from scratch. One page at a time basically. Nothing wrong with that process but considering I want to have chapter 1 done by this year, at the pace I was going at using that method it would probably take me another 2 years or so. I needed to switch up my process to make drawing more faster.

So for this batch of pages I thought, why don’t I just do the layouts for each of the pages ahead of time? Because layouts are one the hardest parts of making a page and is one of the factors that prevent me from finishing a page fast enough. It’s in part due to the storyboards I made which range from being okayish to what are you doing?! I’m not going to get into the reasons why that is because of how long it would take but let’s just say I’ve been working on this chapter for a while now.

With this new method, I don’t have to worry about translating 2 year old storyboards that were made back when I was an amateur (still am but not as much as I was when I was 16) when I get to those pages since it would have already been done. All I would have to do is sketch and ink. It also allows a lot of flexibility because now I’m not restricted to working on the page I’m currently on. If I’m having trouble with a certain page, I can skip it over and come back to it later. I know that people say that you have to tackle the problem first rather than ignoring it but there’s a difference between working smarter and working harder.

I can’t really say if it’s definitively successful or not since I only started doing this last week but so far it’s been working wonders and I think this what I’ll do for any comic I’ll make in the future
