Description
The sunlight filtering through the leavesI’d ought to think puts me at ease
and yet despite the warmth of fall
i can’t ignore the cold at all
It looms like a shadow in the night
even though the day is bright
And no matter where I try to go
I end up right back in it’s sight.
In the middle of the woods
I feel alone and dark and lost
It stares down right into my core
Until I realize there’s nothing more
The only fear I feel is mine
The cold I fight is deep inside
It stretches out it’s boney arms to wrap me up
and keep me warm
But neither rage nor apathy
can make me feel;
can set me free
So I turn my back on it
I stride forwards, do not look back
Towards the sunlight in the trees
To where it’s warm
and where I’m me.
