coloured leads are great on SO many levels! I use different ones for complicated scenes where characters and bg would be indistinguishable. AND after I go over them in pen I don't need to run out the lines! just adjust it in photoshop.
they are amazing!

I simply adore watching how other artists go through their pictures! Also, I can see just how much effort you really do put into your pictures.
The scan doesn't seem to do your picture much justice though! I could see all the shades and such, SO much better in the photos!
Beautifully laid out tutorial too hon! I KNOW how long they take, and the time and patience you've put into this is lovely! great work :3

Actually, the photos are awful. Lots of yellow in it from the artificial light in the room as I was working late-night. I hate how they look in the photos. :/

I find it amazing how some people can make their work seem so effortless. I find it even more shocking that this wasn't even done in Photoshop. XD

God damn, you do dark-to-light? That's contrary to everything I've ever been taught. But it seems to work!! I've never blended that much media together. Way to freakin' go, this was a great tutorial and stunning finished piece!

I do light-to-dark as well, but it depends if I'm layering or blending. When it comes to marker blending, I find dark-to-light works well (most of all with copics).

Point. I always liked to use a clear Tria to aid blending, does neat things when laid over colored pencil work. :3

That is absolutely gorgeous, hon! I'm really taken aback at how much the colors change between being photographed and scanned.
I'm surprised at how much mixed media there is, particularly all the markers. Do you have a favorite to work with, or is it the combination that you like?
Gah, this makes me want to commission you. XD

*lol* yeah, I was taking most of the photos late at night (when I usually do the most work) so they've got a lot of yellow tinge to them from the artificial lights in the room.
Hmmm, I love Tria and Copic equally, though sometimes I can do other things with the other brands too, so mixed overall, I guess. X3

I've never really considered using markers before because...well, I always figured they'd be like working with felt-tipped pens or something. I'm more of an ink/watercolour girl. However, after seeing this I'm definitely going to invest in some.
Your style is great, and you use your media really effectively which comes across in your tutorial. Plus you have a great voice--entertaining, easy to understand and not at all patronising.
Also it's GREAT to see traditional media being used

Yeah, I've heard people sometimes go into using markers thinking it will be like using felt tip pens and coming off totally surprised! XD
So glad the tutorial was entertaining and useful. :3

Actually, I've thought of a couple questions, like what kind of paper do you use for the finished product? and where did you get a light box? I've heard of people taking throw-away ones from dentist offices and such, or making them, but the ones online are expensive I hear.

KeyshaKitty In reply to apeman505 [2009-11-28 06:34:51 +0000 UTC]
I use flying colours or Kaskad card paper - 200 GSM or higher, smooth finish. I'm also an ecological conscious person and make sure that it's always made with wood from sustainable forests (don't want to draw on something that's taken homes away from Orangutans or anything like that).
My friend and her father made my lightbox for me as a birthday gift, so I'm afraid I can't help you on that subject - either you'll have to purchase one or research how to construct your own.

I love seeing how people put together their artwork, especially when traditional media is used. I only have prismacolor markers, but hope to eventually expand and get some of the other kinds you have here (particularly the Tria markers). I might have to try some of the things you've done here, it's so interesting.
Thank you very much for putting this together! It must have taken you a very long time.

That's actually really amazing how you can use all those kinds of media without screwing anything else up.
I can't use copic markers still.
So, I use color pencils, charcoal, pencil, pen, and chalk pastels sticks/pencils, and prismas.

They're well worth the investment, most of all since they can be used in so many ways and on other canvases asides paper too. :3

I had a buddy who owned a 200 piece set. I took them for granted because the marker tips are different then the ones I used. Naturally, I sucked at it. Hopefully time and practice will broaden my skills.

Tria and Pro Markers = Gordin Harris art suppliers in NZ
Copics = Hong Kong art suppliers.

there is an online store you can order copic markers from; [link] .
they ship from the US though, so the shippings not cheap, but if you spend a fair bit you get gold membership and few postage for orders over $50 (and thats fairly easy to do )
hope i helped *waves*
