Description
Ok, here is one of the hardest long exposition i did...located in a church in Ars en RΓ©, town on the "Ile de RΓ©" island (see previous shots i submitted)
long exposure 30 seconds, i had to run a lot to avoid getting myself caught in the image.
the lighting was really good inside this church
i hope you like the result, corrected the tone and contrast also...

Oh...you dressed in black. I didn't think of that. I had to do the extended exposures for a photography class once, but when I did a "light painting" the person was visible. I was just wondering how you were able to remain "invisible" so-to-speak. Thanks. ^_^

Well... light painting/ long exposure photography is just a combination of some basics, and a "good" result is the finish line of a lot of experimentation with various settings. If you want to achieve a good long exposure light painting photography you need to practice and experiment a lot.
technical base :
- a good camera with 30s (or more via Bulb mode) exposure
- ISO ~200
- small apertures F16-F22 (to gain overall focus, but it depends on the artistic composition... if you have a "light path" that goes foreground/background, and you need everything clean focused, go with small apertures)
- tripod (obviously)
- source light (flash light, lighter, light pencil, portable lamp etc..)
context:
- low lighting place (dark room) but that depends a lot on the artistic result you want... if you want to do that kind of thing outside, wait for a dark night (batman ) no moon.
while shooting :
- if you want to capture only the light path (could be good if the shape is really the main part of the artistic work), start the capture, draw the shape, directing the light towards the camera, until the capture ends.
- if you want the scenery to appear in the capture, take the half of the time to light the scenery without directing the light towards the camera (avoids drawing the shape).
I can't tell you more, i think.
all the rest is concepts, variation of technic and methods.
keep in mind that you have to train/experiment to gain confidence to reproduce (that's the aim of it) everything you do... Do base your work on luck. Even if the photography is about a bit of luck, the best photographers are the ones that can redo a photograph
see ya!
