These lovable fellows are Pairans, from the actually pretty good Japanese sci fi film Warning from Space. Firstly, I absolutely adore the design of these things, and in the film they talk in a strange way as if their gargling, and when they get excited and happy they waggled their arms about hilariously. I love them. Even though they are rather obviously people in starfish costumes (no starfish head has ever bulged that much) I just give them major kudos for creativity. As with many things from the 50s, there's a kernel of a great idea that I went and ran with, so all i largely did was make them far more overtly starfish-esque, adding bumps and ripples, making their bodies somewhat less bipedal, and adding suckers and the like.
