“Wait wait wait!” Mei was actually on the ground clinging to Naiche’s leg trying to hold him back. “You only said a few hours, now you wanna go out exploring? Are you mad? We are gonna get in so much trouble, come on, let’s go back”
He turned to look at her, tears were slowly starting to form in her eyes, which made him think it over for a little bit.
“Listen, we have gotten this far, and doesn’t the sound of treasure interest you at all? What if we find something really valuable? Imagine the attention it would get when we get back, it could be so glorious that it would overshadow the fact that we left without permission. Just imagine their faces when we show up with artifacts that nobody could even dream about!” He took a second to imagine it himself, before looking at Mei who had loosened her grip around his leg.
“That could be quite the adventure…” Her voice was low, almost a whisper, but the tears were gone and a small spark was taking its place, she lifted her head and looked at Naiche, she seemed more up for the task now. However, she did not notice that Little Fiend had been using his skills to persuade her to go with him, only to save him the trouble of bringing her back first.
Moments later the team met up with the researcher and their companion at the gate, they seemed more than prepared for the journey, with a backpack that was almost overflowing with supplies.
The duo got a quick explanation about the course of action for the trip and from the sounds of things it was gonna take quite a while to find the area, and even longer to attempt to find the ruins themselves.
No matter though, the team began their journey. The first few days started to feel long, there wasn’t much to do during the travels, but Klee seemed prepared for anything and was a great help to keep the spirits up.
“Ehm guys? Are we supposed to go through that?” Mei nervously pointed ahead, while she patiently waited for the others to catch up. She had discovered a huge dense forest, judging from a distance there weren’t any pathways, so they would have to guess their way through.
“Yes, we will have to go off-road for a few days…” Klee seemed unfazed by the unknown dangers that could hide in the forest, and just kept walking with Chalice right behind them.
“If you see anything that makes you feel unsure, let me know, but other than that just stay close and on your toes” They smiled at the duo, who looked at both Klee and then Chalice, besides being quiet the strange mix attempted to copy their trainer’s actions at times, this was such moment, an awkward smile was his little face before he followed Klee into the forest.
“Don’t you dare even think about…” Mei did not get to finish her sentence before Naiche started following them. “You could at least wait for me!” She yelled and flew after them.
“Don’t be such a scaredy cat, try to relax a bit, it makes the journey easier.”
About two days later Mei was clinging to the top of Naiche’s tail, all exhausted and without the will to move on her own anymore.
“I remember you mentioned something about relaxing to make the journey easier. It doesn’t seem to work does it?” Even though she was exhausted, she could not resist the urge to poke a bit at the Little Fiend, who had gotten a bit quiet himself.
“It’s still easy! I don’t know what you’re talking about” He did not turn around to look at her, he knew that if he did, she would realize just how exhausted he was as well, his paws were hurting and he was about to collapse and just sleep for days.
A giant root appeared out of nowhere, and almost caused him to fall over, but he managed to make it look like he was skipping over it.
“Nice landing Naiche”
Hearing the compliment from the tiny mix clinging to his tail, boosted his ego a little bit, and gave him a bit more pep in his step.
“Hey! Get over here, you gotta see this” It was Klee’s voice, and Naiche started running toward it. Not really considering the creature hanging on to his tail, though he felt her tightening the grip around his tail, so he knew she was still holding on.
“Would you look at this” The researcher carefully ran a hand over the rocky structure, revealing a few carvings under the vines.
They all continued along the structure until they spotted an entrance of sorts, it looked like a doorframe of sorts, but the matching doors were nowhere to be found. A breeze passed the team and they all shivered due to how cold it felt, as soon as the cold passed, it started to feel hot, and then there was some sort of noise in the distance, almost like the crackling of electricity.
Some of the fur on Naiche’s back and tail got a little static and Mei attempted to pet the fur back down, but the electricity in the air kept making it stand up. She laughed a little due to exhaustion.
“Naiche, your tail is so funny”
Klee took out a notebook about to document everything, but Naiche looked at her with a slightly confused look.
“Sorry, I got carried away for a second, let’s explore the inside of the place, shall we?” They didn’t really wait for a response before entering the building. It was pitch dark in there, whatever had been used to light up the tunnels was long gone, but Chalice managed to light up the place a little using one of their moves. They all gasped and made excited noises as they discovered carvings along the walls, they appeared to be of three different birds, surrounded by fire, snow, and electricity they flew over gatherings of people.
“Now that’s what I call interesting” Even though Naiche was saying that with a low voice to himself, Mei heard him, and sighed deeply, he wasn’t interested in the carvings, but the fact that it seemed like these birds were worshipped by a lot of people, which she knew that he would have enjoyed himself.
“You are really simple sometimes…”
He was about to reply back to her when the team arrived at what seemed to be a chamber of sorts, the place widened into a larger room, still with the carvings on the walls, however, in the middle of the room was a pedestal.
“Oh yeah, I’m just gonna sit on this and look down on you guys” Naiche proudly walked toward the structure but was stopped by Klee.
“It’s not a pedestal, it’s an altar of sorts, look at the carvings” She pointed to what looked to be very detailed headshots of the same three birds.
