Artists of the Floating World Series#1 Geisha in Yellow
The word 'geisha' literally means 'artist'. This is the first in a series of geisha illustrations I'm working on. The title of the series came from a line from the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha"--this was how the main character, Sayuri, described geisha, and it really is true, they are living works of art. In the movie it had sort of a sad connotation--I don't mean any such connotation--whether its good, bad, happy or sad, it is what it is, and it is beautiful!
I <3 geisha! They are so pretty!! I read about this place near Kyoto station where they will dress you up like a maiko and take pictures of you--like Japanese Glamor Shots! I'm so there! (I wish--if I ever get a chance, you can bet the pics will go up on here tho ^_^)
This is a vector illustration created using Adobe Illustrator, subsequently rasterized for that more photographic quality (also because its easier to load ^_^)
This is sort of the version two, since I tweaked a few things, most notably the lips--I think it may be what the face was missing (almost).
I'm honestly quite proud of this. I think it was successful ^_^
