Description
A quick (and I mean very quick) reference for my kronosaurus character Monroe. Monroe is more or less a side character in a project/series of short stories that I am working on. He is a lot of fun to draw...hence the sheet. The gist of the project is exploring a wide variety (urban legends, pop culture, science fiction, romance, gender identity, etc) of topics through the theory of the multiverse, in this case a modern world, very much like our own, inhabited by both humans and intelligent dinosaurs (and related creatures). It's more or less something I indulge in and an excellent stress reliever. Whether or not something worthwhile other than art gets posted depends on when I get my second wind/inspiration/motivation...I think I've finally settled on his design. I generally avoid "color shifting" characters because I, personally, finding them too tacky, but I found something that works for me and Monroe. I decided I liked his stripes along his body rather than extending up to his head.
General gist about Monroe:
Personality: Monroe has some anger issues. He's not an angry person. He is currently in anger management, and is learning to redirect his anger. He can be a bit standoffish and distrustful, but given his current living situation, this is understandable, but he is generally pretty mellow. It takes certain trigger words or trigger movements to set him off. He is not beyond using physical violence to get certain outcomes BUT I'll just say it's always been directed at people who more or less deserve it. Monroe is fiercely loyal, and having a friend in Monroe is having a friend for life. He can be bit of a worrywart when it comes to the people he cares about.
Biology: Monroe is a kronosaurus, a very large type of pliosaurus, that being a short necked plesiosaurus, and that being an aquatic "relative" to dinosaurs. Unlike his ancestor, Monroe is land dweller. He still maintains many aquatic features, such as webbed fingers and toes. He can still hold his breath for several minutes underwater, and like all sea creatures, has an excellent inner ear so it takes a lot for him to get dizzy/thrown off balance. Also unlike his ancestor, Monroe is warmblooded, not coldblooded. But his body is not as effective as mammals, birds, or dinosaurs. His body temp runs cooler, and he had difficulty in both very cold and very hot weather maintaining his body temperature. He gets very sluggish on very cold days and runs the risk of overheating himself on very hot days.
Unlikes dinos, Monroe doesn't have hollow bones, and he has thick skin and heavy muscles on top of that. So he cannot run very fast/hardly at all. He sorta lumbers about.
The dangerous part of Monroe is not his mouth and teeth. It's his head and neck. It's a very effective battering ram. His head is very heavy and supported by strong muscles in his neck and shoulders. The skin of his head and neck are dotted with large patches of extra thick skin. He may not be able to run fast, but he can use his upper body effectively. He had broken the ribs of more that a few people (this includes both dinos and people).
BIO: Monroe had bit of a rough childhood, being born to a single parent household. Though things were relatively okay and stable, his mother struggled to live her life plus raise a child on her own, especially as Monroe grew older and more independent. Monroe was fed and clothed, but his mother was not always there for him, and eventually he was sent to live his father and his father's family. In his father's family, Monroe was the middle kid, often bullied by the older children, while being largely ignored in favor of the younger children. No surprise he developed bit of a temper and was often in trouble, either with the police, his family or at school.
Monroe did have some reprieve, in this case his grandparents. Those he often only spend summers (maternal grandfather) and weekends/nights (paternal grandparents) they heavily effected him. Though he can be a easily angered and provoked douchebag, he still remains a good guy at the core with good morals...though he often forgets. They were among the few people who genuinely took interest in him. He idolizes them, and looks to them for guidance, especially when dealing with his anger issues.
From late teens into his twenties, Monroe had a few run-ins with the police, all aggravated assault since Monroe does not take being challenged well and didn't have control over his anger.
After getting into a fight, and ending up in an ER waiting room, Monroe met a young nurse named Areej (AJ). It wasn't love at first sight. Monroe was pretty aggravated...having just been stabbed and was stuck waiting for a doctor in an ER waiting room and was coming down from a buzz, and started challenging everyone, before getting into a verbal argument with a very petite Middle Eastern Nurse, who somehow, managed to put the drunk, massive, wounded kronosaurus in his place.
After being stitched up and sobering up, Monroe eventually came to apologize to the nurse and a friendship was struck up. A relationship was struck up later as they discovered they shared much in common and soon came to depend on each other. Monroe and Areej have been married for about six years. They live in a the "good part" of a bad side of the city and are currently working their way into moving out to somewhere much better.
Currently Monroe is employed at the docks as a dockhand. He mostly works late night shifts, moving cargo from ships and welding repairs. On the side he has occasionally helped with smuggling counterfeit goods/ as a information broker. The extra money he is earning from this is going into a fund to help get him and AJ out of the docks and into a much better section of the city. AJ doesn't know about his business deals, and his "coworkers" don't know about AJ, in fact they don't even know Monroe is married.
Monroe had a birthmark that looks like a human skull of his right arm. On his left arm is the lineart of a heart, right where his sleeve of his shirt would end. He got this shorty after he and AJ were married. Yes it's corny, just don't tell him that. He is often seen with a wedding ring, on a chain (since rings can't fit over webbed fingers), around his neck. More often that not it is tucked under his shirt.
BLEH, I'm going to bed, don't mind the grammar mistakes, and I'll fix them in the morning. I may have to retouch the picture too...my scanner did a number on it.
