Very impressive. Good color scheme. I feel that when you have colors that are separated, such as green and red being separated by yellow, that if you put a hint of the middle color into the outside colors the harmony is much improved. In this case, (intentionally?) that is just what you have done. The red is leaning toward orange and the green has a tinge of yellow, plus the goldish/yellow banding ties it all together. Very nice. Excellent gradient work.
The beauty of understanding masking is that the possibilities truly become endless, no?
My only problem with this is that the spiral is off center. Just a personal thing with me. If it was off by a third, for example, it would look like there was more intent. With it just being slightly off center, to me it gives the impression of...hmmm...how to say it...missed detail?
But I know you work strongly on composing within the four sides, and this does balance well, so what the hell am I talking about?!!!
All-around excellent image.

Thanks for the review/critique. To respond: I've been working/playing with color in one way or another most of my life, but never as formally as your analysis. I've colored, sewn, photographed and quilted using color. My use of color and what looks and feels right to me is more intuitive than intentional. If I get it right by formal standards, credit my eye rather than a conscious decision based on a set of rules. I know things such as when working within a tonal value, anything outside of that value will look wrong. That drove my initial color/tonal decisions in this image. I suppose I could decipher my eyes' choices if I really tried, but it doesn't interest me to analyze my color work to that degree. If it works for me, that's all that matters to me.
Yes, masking is opening up worlds of possibilities.
I tried this image perfectly centered and it looks more off than you might believe. It becomes terribly unbalanced visually and I kept moving my head to the left to see the image better. This is the most pleasing configuration to my eye. Thanks for giving me the compositional credit, so to speak.
I very much appreciate the lengthy comment. I want to hear what people have to say about an image like this, something that I consider to be more serious than most of my images. I worked on this.

Holy Moly!!! Where do you want Kat? You present a tempo, this is incredible.
If it goes on in this tempo, I see you as the new star in the sky of the Fraktal world.
I see no confusion; I see a very well thought-out and very well composed image.
The masking and the texturing+colouring is wonderful. What can I say?

That's so nice of you! I don't take it seriously enough to do much more than I'm doing. It's a hobby, that's all. It's a way to play and create and use color. I LOVE color!

Yes I know it's a hobby, also for me. But I would like to learn it, nevertheless, seriously to be able that to express
what I would like to express sometime. Till present it is rather backwards. I take what comes and try to do something
good from it. Sometime I would like to be able to use UF how earlier my paintbrushes or today my camera.

EXCELLENT masking technique! And you say your new to it and not that good at it! Pfffft! You have done a supurb job getting the three different textures onto the different locations. The soft and subtle colors are wonderful, and I love all the touches of bronze like metal running throughout. Its all crisp, clear, no blurry lines. It rendered beautifully. Wow I just cant say enough. This is certainly one of my most favorites of yours as of late!

It is far from too busy, darlin! The soft, subtle greens work well with the bolder, brassy tones. If the green were a brigher hue or a more flashy color it might have been too much, but your choice of gradient was perfect. You really are coming a long way with your masking, it is showing. You are learning. Quite rapidly too I might add hehe Your technique for this was perfect. I looked over every square inch and couldnt find a spot that you missed or where the texture didnt work as you had intended it too. Masterfully done. YOu should be proud!
