Description Alternate version of the Imperial Light Tank from Valkyria Chronicles game series for my crossover universe with Iron Harvest. Now with another fanon variant in a much better informative profile

== Description ==

Designed by the Ruthenian naval engineer Vasiliy Mendeleev, son of the scientist Dimitri Mendeleev, who created the modern periodic table. The M1910 Shashka cavalry tank was one of Mendeleev more realistic and practical designs to actually saw production. First conceptualized in 1910, the initial design was to be a fast-moving assault gun immune to firearms and capable of traversing the battlefield while provide fire support to advancing infantry units with its hull-mounted cannon. By 1911, a single unarmed demonstrator prototype were produced and successfully performed trench crossing tests. However, this prototype, which were later armed, failed to impress the Ruthenian military delegates in another combat evaluation against the two prototypes of the experimental Ognivo and Kololko light asaults mechs, as such, it was not chosen for propduction. Yet the outbreak of the Great War in 1915 would gave the M1910 prototype another life.

With Ruthenian Empire entered the war on the Entente side, the mechanization process of the Imperial Army peaked, and Ruthenian factories found their production capacity unable to meet the unexpected rise in orders for combat vehicles. This meant that most factories in the Empire, which were still lacking capability to manufacture technologically advanced powersuits and mechs had to look for cheaper alternatives to meet these demands, and the Mendeleev M1910 assault tank prototype was one of the readily available alternatives. To meet the demands for armored combat vehicles, the Imperial Ruthenian military turn to the M1910, now known as the “Shashka” to equip most of its mechanized cavalry units and armored divisions. By 1917, more than 5,000 units had rolled off the production lines albeit in a modified form, now with a one-man turret armed with a Tula-Hotchkiss 45mm L38 cannon and a short hull-mounted Putilov 85mm L 16.4 gun derived from the M1877 Field Cannon for infantry support role. During the 1918 Brusilov Offensive, Shashka units proved to be highly effective in combat against Saxonian infantry and fortifications, but like many contemporary Great War tanks, it fared poorly against more capable armored units.

Aside the baseline cavalry tank and the later artillery tank variants, around 100 units of Shashka were produced in their original design configuration with a dual Maxim machine gun turret and a hull-mounted M1907 Mountain Gun. These were designed primarily as training tanks. Due to this intended role, they were built using mild steel instead of hardened steel plates. From the end of the Great War to the Ruthenian Civil War, many of these training tanks participated in combat against the Revolutionaries, however their mild steel armor proved vulnerable to armor-piercing machine gun ammunitions. All were destroyed in combat or abandoned after mechanical breakdown, none of these training tanks survived the conflict.
