"Call me Maureen, please. Both of you."

"Allright Maureen, I'm Mario, he's Gunny," Antonini said, pointing backwards to Onoye with his thumb.

"He doesn't have a first name?"

"It's Batsaikhan," Onoye said, grinning. "Most people prefer to stick with Gunny."

"Gunny it is then," she grinned back.

Antonini hit the accelerator and the vehicle took off with a lurch. Maureen grabbed on to the roll cage and whooped.

"You like to go fast I see," she laughed.

"It's the mega-fauna again," Mario replied, smiling. "The predators tend to be attracted to movement. We try to get through places as quickly as we can."

"Why don't you have the shuttle land closer to the base then?"

"Because the shuttle attracts them more than anything else and we don't want them drawn in close to the base. We've got a repellant fence around our perimeter, but if one of the buggers was determined enough it could push through, so better to not attract them at all. Hope the ride isn't too upsetting."

"I like fast," Maureen grinned at him.
